It's the last week for panic shopping in the MMP!

lol i meant 65

Thank you. The kids won’t be trying to come they both came town with the flu (given to them by a thoughtless colleague at a holiday gathering~what gives? >>these people are doctors! rant over<<). Then the weather hit Michigan, no way they can safely drive an hour overland to the airport in Detroit even if they still had tickets and reservations-that would be taking their lives in their hands, even if planes could make it in and out of Michigan reliably in this Storm Of A Generation. This burns his vacation days til next summer so if I want to see him, I’ll have to go to them, which isn’t such a bad idea, I’d practically have to drive right past shoe’s house and I could hang out with her and her kittens coming and going. Hmm, that idea has lots of appeal. It must be the silver lining in all this disappointment.

Thanks for the movie ideas-I needed some for after the frantic wrapping is over and the hot rum toddies come out.

Again, thanks. Mumper {{{{ }}}} really do help.

No, see above. Sick with influenza, marooned by the storm, air travel impossible.

You guys help, a lot. Being able to ‘say’ out loud what I’m struggling with and feeling heard and accepted~you all are great at that.

I have to remind myself that this too shall pass, it won’t be endless. Just gotta breathe and get through it.

{{{{{ }}}}} received, back atcha

Made me smile. Forty years ago one of the best cats in the world showed up on our doorstep in the cold rain in Boston. We brought the “orphan” kitten in, saying we would take her to the animal shelter tomorrow or the next day. She was with us a long and happy life as Orphan, who looked like every sweet English cat curled up in front of the fire.

Agree

More {{{{{ }}}}} from the frozen Great Plains.

Made me snort laugh out loud~thanks, I needed that.

Just the place you should be. I’m enjoying the image. Beverage of your choice in hand I hope?

When I was a kid in Pensacola one of the semi-local TV stations would have their Christmas party on X-mas eve and would run an old black and white movie called Mr. Peabody and The Mermaid without interruptions during it. We would put it on the TV and sorta watch it. It’s the onliest movie I consider a X-mas movie.

Of course, that could all be just a figment of my imagination. But I like to think it’s a real memory.

Edit: It might not actually be a black and white movie. it was a black and white TV

Howdy Y’all! Cheesecake is made and the prep that needs doin’ for tomorrow’s feast is done as well. Go Us. ‘Tis currently 27 Amurrkin with a windchill of 16 and N.O.S. No day drinkin’ on the back porch for us today. Instead, we shall achieve nappage shortly. Then, at some point purtification for Christmas Eve service must commence. On the plus side, that will be over by around eight(ish) and we can get back to a warm cave.

Happy Saturday!

Merry Christmas Eve!

It is 3 feels like minus 12 degrees outside.
I overslept, so no park. But Cerby is still limping and my son is still sick, so we wouldn’t have gone anyway.
The ones that did go, didn’t stay long and told me today was a good day to wimp out.

Cerby is sleeping on the bed now, my next bed will have to be king size.
Ripple and Echo sleep curled up in a ball. Cerby stretches out on his back with his feet in the air.
He had no idea that he was getting dirty looks from both Ripple and Echo. I’m surprised Echo didn’t chase him off the bed.

Adam went outside last night, and we kept a close eye on the door. He wasn’t out but about 20 minutes and he was at the door wanting back in. I wouldn’t have been able to sleep if he hadn’t come in.

Trying to schedule stuff. Cerby needs to go to the vet since his limp isn’t getting better. Adam needs his booster shot. Ripple needs his wound looked at. I have a dr visit and PT, and the roofer is coming.
Trying to fit all that in around my son’s work schedule is annoying. He’s going to have to take a vacation day, or go a day without sleep.
I’m not going to juggle this anymore.

Hope your car is okay Shoe
Brings back memories of when I used to park at the ParknRide and I’d have to go from car to car wiping off the snow until I found mine.
Snow is for kids.

And night drinking I hope. Something hot to warm your dutiful verger bones, you’ve earned it.

Got that right

Eldest son and his family came by today for a Christmas Eve lunch of butternut soup. They brought some yummy consumables, and we chatted for several hours. First time I’ve spent a Christmas Eve with any of my kids since about 1992. A divorce and thirty years of roaming the world has that sort of effect on people. Also, getting on an airplane during the holidays is a non-starter. Anyway, it was a good day.

It’s just after 4 and I’m home alone in blissful silence. A couple of hours ago, I went home with Daughter and her kids - SIL had left earlier in our truck and loaded some of the kids’ stuff in it that we’re putting in the basement. So I had to bring the truck home… after gassing it up since it was on fumes. Then I ran into Aldi and got a big bag of little bags of chips for BIL. We’re going to stop by there tomorrow on the way to my brother’s place. Apparently he prefers chips snacks to sweet snacks, so now he’ll have a bunch to get him thru the next couple of days.

FCD just left to take his folks home. MIL took pretty much all the leftovers. FIL was starting to get very confused - he kept asking about shipping a body. No idea what that was about. Anyway, once they’re settled in at home, my sweetie will come back and we’ll chill.

I’m ready for it all to be over, but we’ll be with my side of the family tomorrow afternoon… which reminds me - I need to boil some eggs. So back to the kitchen with me.

Ho ho freekin’ ho… :stuck_out_tongue:

metal mouse, the last time I was up north in the winter, I found that my wiper fluid would freeze (when I lived up there, nobody sold the stuff that would freeze up. Down here, they do). Give the bassets (and the bloodhounds, IIRC) skritches for me.

I hope that your car is OK shoe.

Played around in the studio today, took holiday cards to the neighbors and even got a gift of Christmas cookies from one. Although it’s gotten out of the single digits, keeping the place warm is still a challenge. I put a blankie in Nelson’s studio bed for when I’m working and he tend’s to want up in my lap, under the afghan when I’m not. He’s no dummy! :stuck_out_tongue:

I hope the power stays on for everyone and that all holiday meals are enjoyed!

I’m sad for your bad anniversary Boo.

It’s been a quiet day here, the big excitement was the mail. I had ordered a thing from the jungle and it arrived today so that was good. Just for fun, I’m going to let you guys figure out what it is.

We were both very entertained when I opened the shipping envelope.

We’ve been having a regular visitor at our suet feeder. I think it is a Downy Woodpecker but a friend is insisting that it is a flicker of some sort. We are both old women with bad eyes and questionable bird identification skills so it could be just about anything.

I think I’m going to order a game cam to put out there so maybe we can figure it out.

Just a pic for @nightshadea.

A young Crazy Otto and two of his waitresses.

Forgot to add this: It is a vacuum sealed nightshirt.

I bet hubs will look tre fetching in it.

JtC, I hope it came with a dapper nightcap!

The rain turned into Irish confetti (lovely mist), so I went to the store and got my Rx. They were out of the small size on the Rx, so they gave me a bigger bottle at the same price. I also got a banana for tomorrow’s oatmeal and an orange. We always got oranges or tangerines in our stockings, so an orange on Christmas is one of my traditions. Most people were cheerful and said, “Merry Christmas.” It was all very Norman Rockwell until “Let It Snow” started playing, and I secretly flipped off the speakers on behalf of my blizzard-weary friends and family.

Got deheathenized late today as we had afternoon services instead of am, so I slept in and started my day with hot cocoa and brisket bagel from Einstein bros. (And a cookie)
Going over to the folks tomorrow to have a nice dinner (lamb, oh boy) and celebrate the last night of Hanukkah.

@BippityBoppityBoo Hey if you wanna talk over the weekend message me. I’d be happy to call.

Up from naptime. Dinner tonight is steak, baked N.O.T., and sauteed green beans and mushrooms with rosemary garlic compound butter.

I had a Vieux Carré, so yep.

Yay!

@Tride shared a link to a recipe for salmon chowder.. So I made it. Easy, and delicious. And leftovers.

Goo got some salmon skin (that I baked for her), and Cat Mom took the other piece out in the hope that the otter gets it. We had some baguette with the soup, and I left the heel on the cutting board. Goo found that, so she had some bread too.

Leakage stopped yesterday. The roofer says he’ll come by. It’s 30º warmer today than it has been, and the snow is melting. I put the hummingbird feeder back outside, and spread some seeds for the junkos and chickadees and other birds. I have a bottle of Maestro tequila for the roofer.

Between my oral surgery, the snow, the ice storm, and Wifey, RN cancelling her patient visits, I was unable to get her a Christmas card or present (aside from the 6x6 hot house she already knows she’s getting). I was able to get out today to get her a card, and a $100 gift card for REI. She likes the Pategonia shirt I got her last year (?), so maybe she can get another. Or maybe some new socks, as she likes the pair she just got there.

Tomorrow I’ll cook the prime rib, baked potatoes, and creamed spinach with feta. I bought a pecan pie instead of making one, and I couldn’t resist a small fruitcake in spite of the carbs.

He’d better keep his mitts off! He’s got his own nightshirts to stretch out!!!

LOLOL!!!

Canned music inflicted on the helpless is an abomination at the best of times, that might have lead me to have a polite and quiet discussion with the manager. I figure if enough people complain, maybe, possibly it will stop.
