Anyone else like Dawn & Drew?
This thread just started me on a daylong quest. Finally, set up with Juice (fka Ipodder), I’m subscribing to:
Cover to Cover at Dragon Page, interviews with science fiction and fantasy authors
Nova from PBS
To the Best of Our Knowledge at NPR
Little Gray Book Lectures
I’d previously tried to listening to audiobooks while exercising, but the content was just too long to hold my audio interest. I’m finding interviews and topical shows to be much better.
I wish This American Life were free!
National Australian broadcaster ABC have a range of podcasts on a variety of subjects. Dr Karl’s Great Moments in Science is presented by Australia’s answer to Cecil Adams, Dr Karl Kruszelnicki. Past shows are here
I subscribe to a bevy of podcasts because I like to listen to them at work, so I’ve got 8 hours a day to fill.
My favs include:
Eat This Hot Show
Penn Jillette’s FreeFM radio show*
The HRC’s daily Equally Speaking show
Soccergirl Inc. (website NSFW - she is proud of her breasts)
Plus various others from qPodder
Does any Doper host a podcast?
*Warning: Penn’s show might make you appreciate Gilbert Gottfried and Carrottop.
Krista Tippet’s weekly Speaking of Faith is an intelligent discussion about faith and beliefs. She has a different guest every week. Recent topics include the life and works of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Ainchee Min on the absence of a spiritual life in Mao’s labor camps, and the Danish caricatures of Allah seen from the perspective of an educated American Muslim. Krista Tippet is a great listener. The website is also worth visiting.
Boing! Time to add a few more podcasts to the discussion. I meant to check out a few mentioned in the last couple posts but haven’t gotten around to it. I’ll correct that error tonight. In the meantime, how about some video podcasts?
Video Podcasts
1up TV (subscribe link) - A weekly video game discussion podcast. They show clips and have conversations about the games, rather than just straight reporting which tends to bore me (looking at you Gamespot). I’ve only watched a couple, but they seem pretty well put together.
KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic (subscribe link) - Not terribly high quality, but entertaining at times.
MoBuzzTV (link) - One of those homemade looking news update vlogs. Nothing to write home about, but she does usually read some interesting stories. And she’s not near as excruciating as that Rocketboom chick.
Movie Trailers (subscribe link) - Pretty straightforward. Random movie trailers dumped on your iPod. I just checked and I have a couple new ones I haven’t watched yet, including Mission Impossible 3! Oh well, I’ll recommend it anyway.
Strong Bad Emails & More! (subscribe link) - A must have! So far 5 of the 10 Teen Girl Squad vids have been cast on here, as well as classics like Trogdor and the Techno song. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, just check it out. Looks great on the iPod too.
Must keep Podcast thread alive…
Check out In The Groove Jazz and beyond at http://www.lasternet.com/inthegroove/
They play some great music
Also Naxos has a classical music spotlight that I think you can find in Itunes
