-check if someone has already said what I was planning to say
-check if I might actually be making a somewhat useful, relevant, and interesting contribution
-check if I’m going to say something very controversial that might draw me into a massive argument that I can’t be bothered to have

BAH! That hasn’t stopped 99% of us in** MPSIMS **and IMHO where the unoffical motto is Validating Our Low Self Worth 2.3 posts a day. * ButThose *people in GD are a bunch o’einsteins and they know their poop.

I think my mom, Sapphyre Rose, qualifies as an unknown poster. She’s been registered since November 2002, and she has five posts. She rarely posts here because:

a) she’s still fairly new to message boards, and
b) she thinks everyone will think it’s weird that she only has five posts even though she’s been a member for more than two years. (I tell her that’s not true, but it doesn’t help.)

I figure if nothing else, she’ll show up in this thread to yell at me.

What is the difference, if any, between an unknown poster and a known un-poster?

I usually don’t post unless there’s something I can contribute that hasn’t already been said. Like a number of other people, I’ve also avoided sticking my neck out in GD, for reasons that might be GD material in themselves.

The previous sentence probably doesn’t even make sense to anyone but me.

Kind of weird in that from the views:replies ratio so far is pretty high. This thread has had 8-900 views to 70 replies giving it a 'lurker ratio" of about 12 viewers to one poster.
