Let’s assume that McQueery heard nothing. He is in the locker room and sees Sandusky and a boy naked in the shower with Sandusky pressed up behind the boy with his hands on the boy’s waist. He tells Paterno that he saw Sandusky and the kid naked together in the shower touching. Are you saying that you believe that there is no moral obligation to report this conduct to the police?
FWIW, and completely setting aside any mention of actual rape or other overtly sexual act, the very fact that they were naked together in the shower and standing close together constitutes sexual abuse until proven otherwise, and it is a crime. Now the police are free to investigate and find out that perhaps the boy was choking and Sandusky was giving him the Heimlich, but that doesn’t mean that when one sees suspicious behavior you don’t have a moral obligation to make sure it is investigated.
Again, not talking about legal requirement but what is morally right. Are you saying that you do not believe that it is a crime to be naked an touching an unrelated child? The people on To Catch a Predator would be interested since they get jail time without ever actually having physical contact with their victims, just for going there with the intent to have contact.

I have a related question: If Paterno himself had walked in on a Sandusky having anal sex with a ten year old, and felt totally sure that is what he saw, would reporting it to his superiors have been enough, even if there was no follow-up on the report, no investigation?

Then when your thoughts line up with Elvis’, you think that you are both for some cosmic reason simpatico in the truth when the reality is that your thinking in this instance is simply as flawed as Elvis’.
Further evidence of your fallibilty - at least to me, as I know the facts - is your implication that I was lying about the 7-11 story. But you see, the great thing about being an honest person, which I am, is that it largely removes the onus from having to convince others. I can’t control what you choose to believe, I can only control whether I tell the truth. Thus once I’ve told the truth, I’ve fulfilled my obligation. You can believe it or not, I don’t care. But the fact that you do indeed find yourself in agreement with Elvis (not to mention, apparently, with many of the other dolts in this thread as well) and doubting the veracity of my story for no apparent reason other than your objections to the stance I’ve taken in this thread, suggests to me that it is you who would might benefit most from that walk in the woods.
