It's time to officially Pit Joe Paterno and the Penn State football program.

Lets stay real. Yes, he was fired after the investigation. But he wasn’t fired because of the investigation’s findings. He was fired because of the uproar of public opinion. Rightly so, but still…

You’ve got me on that.

And his evasion still doesn’t make the least bit of sense as anything except evasion.

I didn’t say the investigation was about him, or was the sole cause of his dismissal, but the facts unveiled in the investigation were what the Board faulted him for. SA’s claims that any outcome other than letting Paterno be coach for life with no censure is “not due process” aside, if there had been huge public outcry but no facts (presumably, facts from the investigation) painting Paterno in a negligent light, the Board would not have fired him (because again contra SA there was no free-floating let’s-lynch-Joe-P. animus anywhere, let alone in Happy Valley).

The bigger point is all the bleating about “due process” from SA is stupid in view of the fact that Paterno had months and months to reveal to the investigators and the Board and the public any “real evidence,” countervailing facts, legal or moral excuse, that would trump the undisputed fact that he only did the legal minimum. Paterno came forth with no such facts or arguments (in fact his attempts at exculpation, such as they were, make him look worse, as in “I didn’t want to ruin Curley’s weekend, so I delayed calling him.”). The Board decided that wasn’t good enough and was not going to try to defend the position it was good enough to the public, the victims, the authorities. They relied upon their business judgment in all the circumstances, as the culmination of a long process in which it became clear Paterno just didn’t have any good excuse for his minimal actions.

Is that the one about the Ovaltine? Because I’m warning you, it’s a goddamn commercial.

Not to mention “due process” doesn’t apply in Paterno’s case. Penn State isn’t the government. In theory, they could fire the guy for wearing white after Labor Day.

It’s not an evasion. The answer you seek is to be found all over this thread, plus I reiterated it last night in a single post to see if you could spot it there.

The problem, you see, is that you’re fuming, and like that other great detective Nero Wolfe once observed, “One cannot think when one fumes.”

Archie was the smart one.

Nah, Archie was funny, smart, clever and resourceful - plus, he got all the wimmens, easily the most important quality of all  - but he was no match for Wolfe’s genius, and he knew it.

He was fired because the governor, who started the investigation when he was a prosecutor, told the Board of Trustees to fire him.

Update. Now this:

Overreaction? Maybe. However, the guy has been charged with 52 counts. That’s takes him out of the “give the guy a break” mode.

Look, as the OP, I’m quite amazed that this thread has gone viral in the SDMB sense. I’m not trying to stoke it. But nonetheless, the story continues to evolve.

My favorite part of this is imagining Bizarro Columbo waddling out of the office with his pants still around his ankles and a cardboard tube jammed onto his dick.

Sandusky: “The best way to describe it is I feel very violated.”
Lololol. Yes. I’m sure you do.

Can none of the natterers read for comprehension in this thread? It was Sandusky’s neighbor Jody Harrington who, though neither he nor his children have been harmed in the slightest, stated that he “felt violated”.

You’re right, I did think that quote was attributed to Sandusky. But I merely thought it was a poor choice of words, given the situation.

She couldn’t feel violated; she’s way too short.

LOL! So good it has to be true! I left out this part though, before the paper tube test…

BC: Imagine if you will, 100 young boys all lined up in a row, and you ask them, “Would you rather be fondled or raped in the ass?”…

Mayor: BIZARRRROOOOOOO!!!

At least you can admit it when you’re wrong. Huerta should take lessons.

You are a beacon to us all.

Mmmmm bacon

Oh, oh, I’m dying here. Oh dear god, I just about choked on my popcorn reading this.
