It's Wet and Wild in the MMP: old

Was she blonde? :rimshot: (try the veal!)

Irked, came home, et and am fixing to do KP. Such excitement!

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

As a side note, who the hell decided capers should be stored in tall skinny jars?

So the night heaving went well. But Midnight was FUBAR-ed again, thus us starting late. Plus they managed to overload the belt. Again. And for a change SSLAW #1 broke down. Scuttlebutt says when the facilities in Mebane(pronounced MEB-in, not MEE-bane) opens they may move Midnight and Day Shift to there, and just leave us with Preload and Twilight. Anyways, it’s Redneck Stirfry and and Manhattan night.
Religious wise, I still believe, even if I haven’t been to Mass in a very long time. But considering I helped drive a lay CCD teacher to the madhouse in 5th Grade, the Dioceses of North Carolina and the Holy See are probably down with that.

Did you adopt the reincarnation of Gordie or something?

So say we all.

TVCTPMO

It did and it was, and it’s quite comfy. This isn’t the Seinfeld sofa bed with the metal bar across your spine. They’ve come a long way over the years.

doggio Yer gonna have to explain that initialization.

The Vast Conspiracy To Piss Me Off

Ohh, those fuckers. Hate them.

I have a solid week to use as a writing retreat, hooray! Spread my manuscript bits out on the table, made a big mug of tea, and spent the day writing with the lamps just how I like them and a big pot of ramen for sustenance. I’ll probably work another couple of hours, then read in the tub. Sadly, my current bathtub book Graham Greene’s Orient Express and the antisemitism is a bit much to manage at the moment.

They call themselves The Committee, and its a bad idea to piss them off.

Dayum that sucketh mightily. Just volume and rain, or are people crashing right and left too? As I write this at ~6:30pm Pacific, I hope you’re well along on the way home. Or decided to stay in Burien until traffic subsides. Or does that not happen until after the zombie apocalypse and the great Cascadia subduction zone earthquake?

In his later years my Dad fell into that hole. Hard. It wasn’t pretty.

Worst of all in your situation, it won’t even stay freezing outside this week so you can’t use your porch or garage as an auxiliary freezer. For me, that was the main redeeming feature of Midwestern winter: converting my covered screen porch into a giant walk-in (walk-out?) freezer. Great for chilling and storing great batches of soups & stews & such.

Ouch. BTDT. But had forgotten those suppressed memories until now. Thanks, Hon.

I’d be curious if the fellow was vaccinated or not. Anecdotally I don’t know anyone who’s been vaccinated who suffered much when they finally caught it. I’m sure it happens, just not amongst the people I happen to know.

That was some mighty fine writing. I think the cherry on the sundae :ice_cream: was Amazon’s computer’s coda: “25,918 people found this helpful”. When even computers are piling on, you know it’s good.

Yes, but do you debone turkeys to the rhythm of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun or Just Another Manic Monday?

As to me: Happy late evening all. Glad to hear everyone's mostly good news of the day.

We had nice breakfast out then went to the fancy mall for ladies dancing shoes. One of Her Ladyship’s many wonderful features is that although she comes in a very nice shape, she’s a very non-standard size, so an entire mall of women’s clothing might give up one or two items that fit. Neither of which are quite what her hyper-discerning taste was set on. Which saves me/us vast gouts of money.

Many cute shoes were tried, but none made the grade. We expect to journey across the metroblob to a dedicated dancing gear store in the next couple of days to see what we can find there. Their website is promising.

Once home empty-handed there was lunch & sloth, then she had a gym session downstairs with a new personal trainer while I got the car washed and fueled. She came back upstairs with a migraine. She doesn’t get the head pain, just the woozy & barfy & light sensitivity. She pretended to nap for a couple hours with an icepack on her neck and was mostly recovered when it was time for the evening’s dancing lesson.

We went and did that successfully, but her doing more than a couple of turns was not a happening thing. Rather as expected. So we pretended that part thereafter and all was well. Fortunately today’s lesson plan was mostly teaching me how to turn. Which was graceless, but not once did my head touch the floor, so I’d call it a qualified success. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Now back home again eggnog + rum is duly imbibed, and the wind-down towards bed continues.

Up early manana for another medical checkup in the morning, and a group dance tomorrow evening. I might golf in the afternoon; missed this morning’s tentative plan for lack of ambition. The town’s Christmas parade is nearby during the evening, but not close enough to interfere with us getting to and fro. The Holiday season is hotting up around here.

Sleep well all and we’ll reconnect on Humpday!

Got a question for Mumpers. If you have used one of the DNA/ genealogy tests, would you recomment it to someone else? I know there are several tests available. I’m merely curious if I could trace more distant relatives. I know one family back to 1722. I also know more recent relations out to second, and in some cases, third cousins. But it might be fun to find more.

Aye.

Just volume and rain this time.

I got home at 1820… and I left the orifice at three. So a total of six hours and thirty-five minute of driving, for about six hours of irk. It would be nicer if the weather were… erm, nicer. And (programming ‘and’) if lane-splitting were legal here. I mean, now that the R1 is almost ready…

Good evening all.Went to the gym late and between sauna and cycling burned around 600 calories, so that was a good thing. Also took my shaving cream and razor along and shaved in the shower, thus saving any stress on the water pipes. Have barely used my tub/shower in a couple of months, the gym’s showers plus my Dial 3-in-1 Wash keeps me clean and presentable to the general public.

Flyboy, glad you don’t have to do that drive every day, I think it would drive me mad (or drive me someplace closer to work). Made the mistake of being out in traffic about 4:30pm here and it took me nearly 45 minutes to get the 9 miles home–and this was before the 5pm rush hour…

doggio, will you be moving to Mebane or staying put (if it happens)?

Pilot, hope the store can provide you Ladyship with dancing shoes that meet her requirements.

Cupcakes, can’t help on the DNA tests, never took one to date.

OK, need to finish my internettin’ and be thinking about bedtime soon. Catch y’all tomorrow.

Just to be pedantic, but Manic Monday was the Bangles. I graduated high school in 89, so that’s right in my time.

Now early to bed with me. See y’all tomorrow.

I won’t tell you about boning turkeys. But I will tell you that in addition to my loppers named Cyndi, I have a bucket named Charlie.

I just spent money on some things I didn’t have to have, but wanted.

I ordered two rolling pins with embossed surfaces, to make gingerbread or pie or cookie doughs look fancy.

And I also got four Christmas ornaments with dachshunds. One is a picture, the other three are cute glass ornaments. I already have a number of them but last year the cat knocked over the tabletop tree and three of my favorites were broken. Grrr. This year I hope that I have things arranged so the cat won’t mess with stuff.

I’m sorry but I have a dirty mind. The turkey was having bones taken out of it, not, well, I’m disgusting

There is a restaurant site a few towns over that has had so many incarnations in the 35 years we’ve been here that you can tell when someone moved in by what they call the place. Here is the latest Google pic showing a road sign for the bakery that was there while I was still working. They did well enough out here to be able to afford to move to town. pillar of fire pizza mayer az - Google Search

Oh and I think the menu attached is the latest pizza place. They do a good take and bake, but my favorite thing about the place is the magnificent mulberry tree in the middle of the parking lot.

Hubs and I call it “the old Tesky place” because we are old.

Not only are you a good citizen, you saved some poor Census worker from knocking on your door until they caught you at home (during business hours) to check off one last box on their list.

You are so clever! Please send some of your rain this way. My baby trees need the water!

It has gotten cold here, I’ve started bringing the hummer feeder in at night. I always worry about the bats in the winter, but know they don’t depend on hummer feeders, they are just a treat.

SWEET! It’s so much better for other folks heavy lifting and stuff. I read further and saw that the sofa bed is comfy, great

Yes, do not tell them, because it worked very nicely.

Oh, boooo!!!

Once of my sisters got into genealogy before DNA tests and did the whole paper trail search. Until the fateful day that she learned that a great uncle (?) had been hanged for horse thieving. She was horrified and promptly quite that hobby and took up knitting instead.

She never would say if she was more upset that he was a horse thief or if it was because he was so unsuccessful, but lefties don’t usually take up such a right handed hobby without good reason.

So I’ve been seeing ads for catnip ball things for cats and ordered some. They arrived today and I opened one and stuck it on the dresser in my stitching room. Both cats looked at it, gave it a few licks and walked away. I opened another one and put on the floor. Both cats looked at it, gave it a couple of licks and walked away.

I went off to do other things and came back to find that some kitty had gotten into the trash and pulled the crinkly bags out and put them on the bed. GG was the one who was on the bed with his paws on the crinkly bags but its really hard for me to believe he was the one who put them on the bed. Getting two things out of a trash can and carrying them across the room and onto a bed requires way too much thinkin’ for him.

I gave him a sheet of rainbow cut Mylar wrapping paper when I was being so productive and he can’t even figure out how to move it into the sun when he wants to chase the lights on the wall. Oh, wait, yes he does, he sits next to it and wails until one of his slaves moves it for him. A couple of times every afternoon.

Besides trying to entertain our feline overlords, sloth ruled today. The mail got brought in and the big bin got rolled to the street.

Hubs found a permit for the place behind us, they are buying a nice little 14X48 modular home. He found pics of the 2023 unit and it looks very generic. He tried to find out how much one costs but they wanted contact info and we aren’t quite that nosy!

It really is ok to treat yourself once in a while.

Summary

The worse part is that he smoked it afterwards!!!

Morning, mumpers! It’s a balmy -1c/31f with a predicted high of 3c/37f, and mostly cloudy. Weather app is unimpressed and declares today is “Kind fucking shitty cold.” Yes, definitely was cold and crisp when I trekked to campus this morning. Trains were screwed up too so I was almost half an hour late getting here.

Dicey we don’t really have a Bad Chinese Place, we’re fairly short of Chinese places that open at lunchtime. There used to be a restaurant that did a “business lunch” which was a set price menu but they are on the opposite side of town to where I was going. The new place opened a few years ago and is very good, reasonably priced, and the guy who runs it is really friendly.

Apparently we are decorating the office for hexmas today but we don’t have any decs so we are making them. Because we need to be sustainable, right?

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 45 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 58 and N.O.S. for the day. Speakin’ of which, has anyone heard from her lately? We shall procure provisions this mornin’. We don’t need much so that should be an easy chore. We shall also procure some steamed shrimpies because tonight’s sup shall be shrimpies ‘n grits and roasted spareguts. There will, of course, be the usual sloth, general overall uselessness, nappage, and day drinkin’.

CupCakes never got into genealogy, but a first cousin did big time. I figured all I’d find out was my ancestors were horse thieves, or worse, revenooers!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother of bothers, I suppose I must needs purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Oh woe is me!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

You know it! I hadn’t even finished unloading the baskets of clean clothes when I saw that FCD had piled some dirties on the floor, awaiting the return of the baskets. And so it begins… again…

This cracked me up - how old does one have to be to be a cougar in a senior community??? :open_mouth:

I’ve gotten a couple of pop-ups on FB for these and I want them, even tho I can’t recall the last time I make cookies. Don’t care - WANT!!!

I don’t know if I mentioned this - my mom’s cousin found out that their grandfather (my paternal grandfather’s father) committed suicide in prison where he was locked up for murder. This was a big secret apparently - all we’d ever been told was that he’d committed suicide (which wias scandal enough) suggesting he was distraught over his wife’s death. So I guess there’s murder in my DNA…

Good morning! FCD eventually found TX SIL at the airport. We hadn’t seen her in years and she had no idea what he was driving, and he said the place was crazy crowded. He was back home by about 4 - right about the time I was leaving Daughter’s place.

SIL gave us a really pretty hand-made wooden bowl. Very sweet of her, but, frankly, it’s something else to dust. I’ve been working on getting rid of decorative but non-useful stuff of late. Not sure if I can figure out something useful for this - using it as a planted will destroy it. So for now, it’s sitting on the antique Singer in the living room.

We’re having everyone but son-in-law over for dinner tonight. (He’s not banned - he’s working.) I’m going to do a pasta bake with rotini, and I made an apple cake last night (OMG, it smelled soooooo good!!) So I’ll be fetching Roxy back here and Daughter will pick up MIL and SIL since her school is really close to the apartment. I need to rollsuck the living room before Tobias gets here, or it’ll never get done.

I also need to contact the vet - they never responded to my email about needed more meds for Higgs. Acutally, FCD needs to do that - it’s his dog!!! :stuck_out_tongue: And I need to call my car guy about scheduling for my new tires - in 2 weeks, I’m thinking, once the kids and Daughter are on break. And there are probably other things I need to do.

So it begins. Happy Wednesday!
