iTunes help, please

I don’t understand why you’re doing all this the hard way.

But my advice going forward is that you let iTunes organize all the files.

It’s not by choice. I managed to get the files completely fucked up on the old computer, to the point where I can’t figure out how to unfuck them (it’s a real talent, trust me). Since there’s no point in trying to fix something that is going away, I’m just copying the music files to a thumb drive and uploading them to the new computer (and even that is not going seamlessly). When all of this is done, I’m uninstalling iTunes from the old computer and deleting all the files associated with it.

It’s apparent from this thread that I really don’t understand how iTunes works. I look at the path in the Advanced section of Preferences, place music files in the folder it says it wants them to be in, and it still can’t see them (I get the little exclamation point). So I had to drag them out of the file in the file path and drop them into a file called iTunes Media, then drag them again into the Automatically blahblahblah file so they’ll play. Now each song appears twice in the library, and if I delete one of them the other one won’t play. Who invents a program this clunky and difficult to use?

The Outlook transfer is pretty easy. Just export what you need from one computer (most likely using pst format) and import into the other one. Don’t delete anything from the old computer until you’ve successfully imported into the new computer.

I don’t really understand what you did in the first place, but I’ve never found Itunes difficult to use. The basic rule is that you leave the folders alone. If you had just copied over the entire Library intact, I think it would have gone much more smoothly.

And what is the process for exporting?

Ascenray: And you’ve nailed it. I moved files instead of folders, then did some stupid things which I won’t go into, and the result is NOT profit.

The thing about that folder that’s in the Advanced section is that it is where iTunes will store the files but it doesn’t want you putting them there. You **HAVE **to import the songs into the library using iTunes to do it, otherwise iTunes doesn’t know they’re there and won’t play them.

Which can be as easy as dragging the file to the Itunes icon and dropping it on top. Itunes will then load the file into its database

I should have listened to you to begin with.

So now about that Outlook problem . . .?

I gave up looking for free software to copy from Ipod to computer. I spent $20 on a program called CopyTrans and it worked for me. Inculding playlists.
