So, once a month or so, I get the little Apple update utility thing that pops up, on rare occasion, there is an update for iTunes or Quicktime (I use them for the handful of shows I have bought on iTunes, including How I Met Your Mother, Dr Horrible’s Sing Along Blog, and Bones). More often however, it’s just spamming me to install Safari, which I have no intention of using (I mean, between IE, Firefox 3, and Chrome, I think I’ve got web browsing covered).
Annoyingly enough, there is no “Stop Spamming Me” option I can find, and I’m forced to close the window and wait a month for Apple to spam me again. Anybody know if there is a way to fix this? Is there a program other than iTunes I can use to manage my iTunes purchased movies?
If you’re referring to the Apple Software Update Utility, there is an option to ignore updates you don’t want. Run it, select Safari, but don’t hit OK. Instead, go to the Tools menu and hit “Ignore Selected Updates.”
Unfortunately that’s just how Apple rolls. You have to uncheck the stuff you don’t want it to install or else you’ll get it whether you like it or not. I just ignore it when I need to update iTunes.
Unfortunately that’s only for that specific version number of the update. If a subsequent update appears with a new version point, it will appear in the list again.
That’s kind of funny, actually. “Are you sure? We’ve improved it now, see - it’s a new version! Do you still want to ignore it? Come on! Try it now! Please?”
