I have two iPod classics that each sync to the same iTunes program/account. Each iPod is able to hold my entire music collection.
I will soon get a 128GB iPhone, which I will also use to store music on. This will unlikely hold my entire library of music, so I expect I will have to selectively load it with songs.
I know I can put check marks next to the songs in iTunes that I want loaded to a device, but here is my question: Will iTunes remember - once I connect it - that the iPhone only wants to sync the checked songs? And will it remember that each iPod wants to sync the entire collection each time I connect them?
Finally, is there a limit to how many devices can sync with iTunes? If so, how many? Are there workarounds?
Generally, the sync settings apply per device, so yes iTunes will remember how you want your iPhone done.
I have two iPods and an iPhone and they all have different settings.
Don’t know about the number of devices that can be synced but you may be able to find out on the Apple iTunes support site or the forums.
If the check boxes don’t work on an individual device basis, you can make playlists that only sync to whichever device. That might be easier anyway than going checkcheckcheck through 128+ gigs of songs.
I’m not entirely sure, but I don’t think there is a limit to how many devices you can sync to your iTunes library. There is a limit to how many devices can be authorized to use your iTunes/AppleID. I think that limit is a total of 10 devices, and of those 10, a maximum of 5 can be computers.
