My aunt’s house near Ft. Lauderdale, with a probable detour to Miami to see a childhood friend and a potential second detour north near Palm Beach, to see my other aunt. Everything is still, how should I say it? up in the air.

Another 4 day weekend? Score!
Just kidding. These things blow. (No pun intended)
Ivan has just been upgraded to a solid Category 5 with sustained winds of 160 mph.
And the predicted track is now aimed directly at . . . Tampa.
Sigh.
However, it’s still a little early to accurately predict where it will actually go - anything outside of 12 hours is an educated guess at best.
As awful as this all is, it’s kinda morbidly funny. Getting smacked by every third hurricane so far is definitely wierd.
Just checked again, now the predicted track is Orlando. At this rate it’s going to double back on itself and strike Manchester, England.

it’s almost like this is Environmental Terrorism…
Mother Nature is a Terrorist!
the bombing begins at noon

seriously though, just to reiterate an earlier post, what did Florida do to piss off the Weather Gods™?
hope it misses Florida and decides to track out into the Atlantic and dissapate…
This does look nasty. From the NHC discussion:
I was watching the news this morning while the teekids were getting ready for school. We talked about all the families in Florida that have had a lot of bad things ( Kelli’s words ) happen to them. My family is thinking about all of you guys and hoping for the best!
Dammit! I haven’t even been back to work after Frances because my office is still without power. Now Ivan’s coming next week? This is insane.
I’m just praying I won’t have to evacuate. I spent 14 hours on the Turnpike last Thursday because of Frances, and I really, really don’t want to repeat that.
Except Ivan hasn’t been following the models so far and continues to drift west. Maybe he’ll make a beeline for the Yucatan.
Okay, we need to organize everyone in Florida with any sort of lung capacity to all stand up and blow westward at the appropriate moment. This effin’ sux!
I just read that they’re already evacuating the Keys, and Ivan is still three or four days away. This one must be a real ass-kicker

How are you gentlemen? All your Cuba are belong to us. You have no chance to survive. Make your time. Ha Ha Ha.

Beat the rush and evacuate now?
Why not put NASA to good use, have them set up an array of rocket motors on some uninhabited (or sparsely populated) islands in the Bahamas, and have the rocket motors aimed at Ivan, use enough of them to change the wind currents and blow Ivan out into the Atlantic, or at the very least, dry him up…

Oy. Maybe he’ll skirt the coast and come for us instead! You can bet this time we’ll unplug all our electronics if that’s the case.

Today they’re evacuating turistas. Tomorrow is mobile home park residents. Saturday is everybody else. It’s very hard to evacuate the Keys because of the narrow road leading out. Already several deaths in Jamaica and Cuba looks hosed. Hope it turns or slows down soon.
You know the brown line that goes right up Florida? Yeah. That’s going right across where I live (Polk County). For the third time? Shit. Charley’s eye went just east of me, by about 5-10 miles. Frances went right over me. Ivan needs to find someone else to pick on. It’s amazing considering everything that I’ve come through with as little damage as I have. Thank God we’re far enough inland that both storms were seriously weakened by the time they got to us, or we’d be in really, seriously bad shape by now.
The ARC of Florida is requesting assistance with the possible evacuation of 380 people with developmental disabilities. I’ve spent the afternoon helping to line up places, cots, sheets, blankets, pillows, food and etc. I’m hoping it won’t happen, but looks like we’ll be ready for em. I might get to sleep at work for a few days. YEHAA! :dubious:
I’m here in southwest Georgia blowing as hard as I can. All you other dopers in or near Florida need to get busy doing the same thing now. Blow, dammit, blow!
Smiley’s that look like they could be blowing:
 :o

I’d seriously consider changing your address or your eerily appropriate username.
