Ivan

Well, it is settled. I am going to Alabama next week. I’ll probably leave early Saturday. According to my uncle, my brother’s house if totally fucked.   He said it looks like the roof went and then all the walls just collapsed. Thank God my brother and his family weren’t there at the time.

I love going to Alabama, but damnit I sure as hell wish it was under different circumstances. I’ll be busting my ass helping to clear the land and do whatever else they need me to do. It sounds like almost all of the surrounding pine trees on his land took a nose dive and good portion of them are piled up on the west end of his 5 acres.

It may not be as bad as it sounds though. My uncle has a flair for the dramatic and his cell phone cut out before I could question him in depth. I have my fingers crossed.

From Yahoo! news:

Alabama: “The good lord was looking out for us,” Driver said.

Florida: “You want to see the natural hand of God firsthand but you don’t realize how strong it is,” said Kevin Harless, 32

Apparently God hates Florida.

Be careful your party doesn’t end like the one in the Richelieu Apartments.

Those idiots were right off the beach and were hit with a 26 foot wall of water when the storm surge came ashore.

'Course we have the benefit of hindsight.

Did I do something to offend you?

I’m talking about those people in the apartments being idiots. It has nothing to do with you. It also has nothing to do with hindsight. When you tell a police officer you are staying for a storm and he wants to know who your next of kin is, you’re an idiot for staying. I’m sure John is not right next to the beach.

As for the other thread, don’t be so touchy. I simply pointed out that you were using a three year old article about bugs against the game.

I think it would be fun to be placed in a big hamster ball and then tossed into the ocean during this storm.

More like they ignored the danger they were in, possibly because they simply were not aware and too drunk to listen to the cop. Ignorance doesn’t equal stupidity.

Looked to me that you went out of your way to do so, and with a strawman no less. My apologies if I misinterpreted.

Jeff, I typed up some long reply but then realized, what the fuck does this matter? Have fun, I love you, please have my baby.

How many beers do you have left? :dubious:

Just enough for Jeff and me. We need to work on our love baby.

EL NINO! That’s Spanish for…THE NINO!!!

The Carolinas got a good amount from flooding from Frances, now we are looking at Ivan…and guess where Jeanne is heading?
Crap. If we thought Frances was bad…

Ok, I’m back on line. We were only 4 & 1/2 days without electricity this time. Did I say I really like having a portable electric generator?

Ivan came through here Thursday, during daylight so we could stare out the windows and watch. Awesome!

We had minimal damage and no injuries, so all’s well that ends.

Thanks to all the well-wishers.

John, glad to hear everyone is ok. New Orleans was very lucky this time. Unfortunately it was at other people’s expense.

Finally got back online today. Power was restored yesterday(much faster than I thought). I was sick most of the time, so I could barely eat. I also spent lots of time fanning myself, even when the breeze was very nice.

Ivan has now reformed in the Gulf of Mexico as a tropical depression. This motherfucker never gives up. Pretty soon it will be running for President of the US or going to Hollywood to try for a movie deal.

blah, make that re-formed. I doubt Ivan has improved itself any.

And there I was sitting in Houston, saying, “well, that one missed us”. Oh, well.

The local radio and TV outlets are claiming guaranteed flooding, while the various national weather outlets are syaing it’s gonna be maybe some rain. Who’s right? Flip a coin, I guess.

Judging from the havoc wreaked by the last tropical storm (although that one hit us twice), El_Kabong, I’d park on the second story of the parking garage that day.

I don’t need this now. I work in the Med Center, I live a street north of Brays Bayou, I am working feverishly to get a grant out before October 1st, and Saturday is Yom Kippur.
