I've Been to that Google Image!

Ever do a really wide <search engine> Image Search and find a picture that you immediately recognize?

I don’t mean, for example, Googling “The Taj Mahal” and saying, “Well, shuck-a-muck! I’ve been there!” or even Googling “America” and happening to see a picture of your hometown.

I mean the really unexpected ones. The ones that are so unexpected that you have to make a MPSIMS thread about it.

In case you haven’t guessed, I had that happen to me just now.

I was minding my own business, decided I’d look up some pictures of payphones for a lesson that I’m planning, when, sitting there right on the first page of results is this.

Here is the page of results. Far left, second row from the top.

I know that payphone. I know those vending machines. And you bet your patootie that I damn well know that street. It’s in Kawagoe City, a suburb of Tokyo, and my ex-boyfriend friggin’ lives in the apartment building just around the corner!

All I typed in the search engine was “payphone” and I’m suddenly walking down that street again. Not too far from that payphone is a guy with a café and a really nice dog. And that store with the little tasty cakes. And the supermarket where I’d always pick up beer and wine. So many memories pop back into my head thanks to this completely unrelated query.

Has your search engine surprised you lately?

I’ll always regret doing that “granny porn” search.

Well, assuming you saw your grandmother, I shudder to ask what memories that brought up for you.
