No one question is important enough to merit its own thread, though. So I’ll post my questions in this thread and if you know the answer to one of more of them, feel free to answer. Some have factual answers, some don’t.
1. What shape are the Altoids tangerine sours?
They appear to be peeled tangerines, but I thought tangerines are more flat on the top and bottom. These have sort of a conical bottom.
2. Do banks really have an ‘all clear’ signal a la the movie Bandits?
In the movie, two of the banks had an ‘all clear’ signal that alerted police officers on patrol that everything in the bank was OK (i.e. the bank wasn’t being robbed). In one bank, the window blinds had to be turned a certain way. In another, the bank’s outdoor sign was illuminated to signal all was clear.
3. Why do people sometimes take their finger and bend their nose to the side when indicating someone’s in the Mafia?
I’ve seen this in old movies. Does it allude to a broken nose?
4. What sect of Judaism requires women to wear dark, long clothing and why?
Every now and again, especially in the predominantly Jewish part of Baltimore, I’ll see a family out and about. The father and kids are dressed in regular occidental garb, but the mom will have on a long black skirt and a long-sleeved, tunic style top and sometimes have her head (not face) covered. I may be misremembering the head being covered, though.
5. What kind of sewing machine should I get and how much should I spend?
I’m only going to make pillows and maybe simple window treatments.
6. There’s a painting, if I recall correctly, of a couple dancing in the rain with their maid holding an umbrella. It appears to be windy. Who’s the artist and what’s the title of the painting?
I swear I’ll write it down this time.
7. How is Gustave Caillebotte’s last name pronounced?
