I’m escaping the heat and humidity of February and going to Berlin. It’s a city that I’ve always wanted to visit. Everyone I know who’s been there seems to have enjoyed it. And it will be lovely to experience the cooler weather too.
I haven’t been to Berlin in ages and ages. Lived there for a year '86-87. Wonderful city.
I am officially envious.
I’m enjoying Berlin very much. The museums are just incredible, and I went to a great performance at the Staatsoper last night. And another thrill has been the snow that fell most of yesterday. The locals didn’t like it very much. No doubt they’ve had more than enough of it this winter. But I thought it was great.
So…did I mention?..envious.

I’ve never been to Germany - I’m envious.
Do you speak any German? If not, do you have any trouble getting around?
I’ve never studied German, although I have picked up the basics from singing various German works. Of course, that’s tended to leave me with a somewhat specialised vocabulary: useful for deciphering the texts on sarcophogi in the royal crypt of the Berliner Dom; less so for basic conversation. However, as everyone speaks extremely good English anyway, I haven’t had any problems.
