Chop your OWN wood, and it will warm you twice.

Damn, I could actually use that wood. To bad your to damn far to come and get it. Otherwise I would solve that problem over the weekend.

I had two elm tress die on me of that dutch elm disease. I called around to see how much it would cost to have them taken down and the answer was ‘way too much’. So for about $50 I bought an electric chainsaw and slowly but surely, over the years, the trees are coming down and feeding the stove.

This was the best idea ever. I get exercise while i cut, chop, split, stack etc. (save on gym fees). No need to heat the house as I am sweating like crazy.(Save on heating)

later I burn it in the stove and save some more on heating.
An I still have a lot of wood still left out there (except that some SOB stole my ladder)

The secret here is to do it at your own pace. If you pay a tree removal company they will do it in half a day. I have been working on those elms for several years now and still have plenty of work ahead.
