Jack White taking a shot at Black Keys' Dan Auerbach as collateral damage in custody tiff

Yeah, that’s how it came to our attention. I’m a fool, and how it bears on the custody battle really wasn’t what was boggling my mind. I’m really asking what that has to do with where his kids go to school. He’s saying that his inability to deal with competition would make his children’s lives at the school suffer. I’m saying that wouldn’t be a problem if he was an adult.

As far as giving him a break for being a fool: I usually think long and hard before I hit send. I know that having things written out in text gives the words a perverse power, while not necessarily communicating the meaning you intended. Words are powerful, text even more so. On top of that, while on any given day I’ve said batshit crazy things that I would be embarrassed to have repeated back to me. I don’t think I’ve really worried about who’s “ripping off” who stylistically for a great long time. As a musician that is mining history for his inspiration, he should have gotten past that kind of talk a looooong time ago, and he’s a douche for merely saying it. It shouldn’t even be an idea that his brain has rolling around for his mouth to use. That he would use it as a reason to make his kid’s life screwy is even worse.

Been lurking for a while, but wanted to register to respond to this. I’m a fan of both Jack White and Dan Auerbach.

In interviews I’ve seen, I’ve always thought White was intelligent, and articulate, but dude has a chip on his shoulder the size of Montana. Auerbach has always come across (to me) as a pretty chill guy. You can hear it in their music. To me, they are nothing alike. White’s playing has a lot of hostility and agression, hell, even his lyrics are like that. I don’t think the Black Keys have a single song with what I’d call aggressive lyrics.

This outburst by White just seems bizarre and random. I feel kinda bad for Auerbach because I don’t get the sense he’d give much thought to what Jack White is doing. I guess I can speak from experience that going through a divorce is not a fun time, and agression can get amped up at times. Maybe that’s all this is.

Seriously though, aside from the fact that The White Stripes and The Black Keys are two-piece bands that play blues inspired music, I don’t think they are similar at all.

I’ll be cold dead in the ground before I recognize Adam Ant over XTC!

Splitter!
