Jackasses who try to get out of jury duty

I don’t know who you talked to, Monty, but I just called the number for CDC#4 and asked for the results of the case (are you sure it was criminal district court? There might be others.) I don’t know who I talked to, but he sounded like the bailiff (?) that helped coordinate us during jury selection. He didn’t hesitate to answer when I told him the name of the defendent.

The case hasn’t been resolved yet. Could it be that all of a case, including the voir dire process is kept under wraps until the trial’s conclusion? I don’t actually know. Oh, and I was called to jury duty approximately a month ago. I don’t know whether the trial just started, has been going on the entire time, or what.

I don’t know why in the world you keep insisting on disbelieving this story. It’s true. It happened. If the defendent is found guilty, I’ll gladly post his name and as much public information as I can, and then maybe you can look up the transcript on his case. Since I’m interested in the outcome of the trial, I can let you know and then you can figure out how to get hold of the information.

I’m more than willing to prove my story (though God knows why in the world someone insists on such in the Pit), and when I’m able to do so, I’ll gladly accommodate you. Until then, I will give the defendent the right to the fair trial he deserves and not smear his name all over the Internet.

Oh, and can you provide proof that you actually did call the courthouse? Why should I take your word on it? Oh, wait! I don’t give a flying fuck. I assume people are telling the truth unless I have a reason to think otherwise. You’ve given me more reason than most to disbelieve any shit you say, and yet strangely, I think you really did call them.

Well, no it wasn’t. A mature apology would be more like, “I am sorry for the way I worded my post. I should know better after my three years on this board that the actions of one (the aforementioned apparently false legal story) are not reflective of the actions of another (Throatshot’s story), and it was terribly rude of me to call someone a liar without proof.”

Meltdown Alert!

Would anyone mind if I requested the mods close this thread? I mean, really, this is just stupid. I came into the Pit to tell a story of something that happened to me, and someone simply goes overboard in his zeal to prove I’m a liar for no good reason.

I insisted I was telling the truth. Others insist it’s perfectly feasible.

I doubt anything short of the transcript of the jury selection process, notarized and signed by the judge will convince him of his mistake, so please let me know if you want this thread to remain open.

Let’s see…

You already smeared his name yet you don’t want to smear his name.

You want me to say “I am sorry for the way I worded my post.” I did exactly that.

You say that the stuff might be kept under wraps yet you have no trouble with getting the bailiff to tell you the results of a case that’s not resolved.

All-in-all my last posting was quite polite and very fair. I also said I think my take on it very well may be wrong; however, I did provide why I formed the opinioin I formed. And this time politely.

I’m standing by what I posted in the recent posting above unless and until you do exactly what you just suggested.

As it is right now, you are now just being more of a <ahem> than I was earlier. And you want the thread closed now. Interesting.

Oh. I believe you meant to say that you don’t want to smear the defendant’s name. I was pointing out that you have already smeared the prosepective juror’s name.

As someone who has watched this thread develop, let me get this straight. Monty made a long-distance call from California to double-check an anecdote someone told him about a jury selection in Texas.

Why bother?

Curiosity.

Come to think of it, I can’t really blame throat for being an <ahem> for a bit given the tenor of this thread.

It should pass–for both of us.

Monty, are you thinking of the time when I belatedly realized the falsity of Demise’s story about how his friend-of-a-friend had been threatened with prosecution for a hate crime when he killed a gay homeless guy in self-defense? The difference is that I actually had proof the story couldn’t have occurred as it was being recounted, because Texas had no hate crimes law at the time of the purported prosecution. I think the lesson is that it’s acceptable to inquire about the truth of a suspect story, but outright accusations of dishonesty probably ought to be avoided.

If you wish to inquire further, this is the web page for Tarrant County Criminal District Court #4.

Monty and I have made up off-board. Sending an email to the mods to close this thread.

Yep. Throat sent me a very nice e-mail and I replied in kind. We are in what’s known as agreement. 'Nuff said I trust.

I laughed, I cried…

The ending sucked.

wow.

who knew Fort Worth was such a hot spot?

woo hoo! Cowtown is famous!

I think I will go stand outside the courtroom and go play paparazzi! Watch out Mr Martinez, once Ipost you up on my site, you’ll be the next weird earl link!

I can see it now:

You Laughed.
You Cried.
The Ending Sucked.

And HERE is the man who inspired it all.

Do I still get to be a stupid bitch? There’s been a shortage of us stupid bitches lately. sigh

Glad you guys could make up.

Sorry, every time I’ve tried to open THIS thread the board decides that it Doesn’t Want To Play With Me. So now I’m shutting down the thread. THAT’LL teach the board who’s boss!
