Are you fucking kidding me? You’re pitting those “ultra-alarmists who regularly Pitted Bush when similar stuff happened during his terms,” and asking if “us guys feel even a little abashed now,” and you cite a banned poster?
He certainly did. Definition 2A of “abort” in Merriam Websters is “to terminate prematurely”. If the man’s sign had said PREMATURELY TERMINATE OBAMA, even the dumbest hick could easily interpret it as KILL HIM.
Huh? I thought you people associated Obama with being against guns, threatening to confiscate them, and holding gun owners to be bitter. Seems like the kind of guy you describe would have whistled and cheered the sign.
To be ruthlessly fair, there is, in fact, a political mindset abroad in our land that directly defines abortion as murder. I suspect that the slogan in question is directed to that group, hence, it would be fair to say that there is an implication of violence here, albeit abstract and unworthy of serious attention.
That said, I would be very, very surprised to hear that law enforcement in OK had been infiltrated to the point that it has become an instrument of liberal thuggery. Very.
For someone who’s such a stickler with the exactness of language, I don’t think I’ll bother to point out why this is wholly inaccurate.
Again, going with my consistency theme, I’m outraged with this story just as much as I am with some of the stories on the flip side: somewhat to moderately little.
I’ve never posted these stories in a froth saying “see? see what President X is doing?” I’ve never even gone in search of these stories to post.
I don’t consider this to be equivilant to a Gitmo interrogation. Hell, I don’t think this is a slippery slope towards a fascist state. I’m not even suggesting he sue the police or the Secret Service for this.
But it was a mistake and a mistake with potentially serious consequences. They violated a guy’s Constitutional rights.
I’m sorry you feel that’s no big deal. Maybe it’s because you’ve gotten so used to the Executive branch ignoring the Constitution over the last 8 years that this doesn’t even phase you. I can’t say the same for me.
Seriously? I think you’d be reprimanded by the judge for wasting the court’s time and trying to impose your irrelevant opinions and desire to see that naughty boy smacked for your own righteous self-satisfaction.
Isn’t it hard being a lawyer when your thoughts are this muddled?
What exactly are the similar threads the bush bashers posted? Were they about having signs taken down at rallies or were they about taking down a borderline threatening sign?
The cop made a judgment call and they fixed the problem fast. If the same thing happened to Bush I’d feel about the same. “Meh.”
Agree. This appears to be the isolated actions of one idiot who went past his authority. It does not appear to have the “blessings” of the party or the administration. Give the clown some extra training and a day or two “on the beach”.
Seriously? You don’t know what you’re talking about. The suit, if any, would not be considered frivolous whether I won or lost. The allegation is that a civil rights violation has occurred. There is evidence to support that claim. Just because damages are minor does not mean the claim is invalid, or that the case is frivolous.
You’re kind to think of my welfare, but since the post completely misses and mischaracterizes my OP, I am afraid I will have to decline your kind invitation.
On the other hand, it would make it much easier for the apparent legion of folks here would would much rather respond to it than to my actual post. But I’m afraid my Christian charity does not extend so far.
If you don’t want your OP mischaracterized, then how about manning up and telling us right out what, and who, you are actually talking about? You’re hiding behind a bunch of coy evasions and vague references to “similar events” and “a few posters”, and refusing to specify what you mean by them:
(Emphasis added.) The only definite referent you gave us in all of that fog of unfocused fulmination was the name of the ex-poster Reeder, who is not going to come in here to let you know whether or not he feels abashed.
Why should any of us believe that any incidents of the type of “outrage” you allege actually occurred, or that they had anything to do with us? Maybe you’re just a forgetful old guy who gets resentful about half-remembered annoyances that didn’t really happen the way you remember them.
If you want your criticisms to be taken seriously, have the guts to be explicit about what you’re criticizing.
I don’t feel abashed. Can you show any example of outrage over a sign suggesting harm to president Bush? I doubt it.
You can drive around any city in America, and you’ll see bumper stickers saying, “Abortion is MURDER!” and “Abortion Stops a Beating Heart!” Police officers see them every day. Then they see a sign saying, “Abort Obama Not The Unborn.”
So, they think, abortion opponents see it as murder, and as stopping a beating heart. This guy believes it ought to happen to the president. That’s not the same as “Stop the War” or “Buck Ofama.”
This case is not the same as the protesters thrown in jail or put in a chain-linked “free speech zone” a quarter-mile away from GWB. You’re talking apples and crab-apples, here.
