How many dopers have either heard of Jacks, or have actually been there?
I have had people from Germany, England, Austrailia and other places all ask me for directions.
Its this little hole in the wall dumpy looking place that has perhaps the best steak in the world. Well, maybe not, but it is by far the best steak I have ever had.
Must I educate everyone about the location of the world’s best steak? It’s at Cattleman’s Cafe in the Oklahoma City stockyards. Bought fresh, aged in the cafe, grilled to perfection.
While I can agree that Jack’s does serve an excellent dry-aged steak (I grew up in Redding, fnord), my memories of the place are that it’s a dark, grotty hole freguented by bikers and Northern California’s own contribution to society, white meth-lab trash. In other words, perfect. Unless you happen to take squeamish high-school girls there.
Peter Luger’s in NYC does an excellent dry-aged porterhouse, and I find the national chains (Ruth’s Chris and Morton’s, e.g.)acceptable. What IS it about that place that everyone seems to have heard of it, though?
