Jacoby SHOULD Be a Girls' Name

Many girls’ names are boys names with feminine suffixes added. Endings such as a long e sound(with various spellings), -a, -ine, ette, -ess, or a combination thereof. Examples would be Michaela(although that isn’t the most popular spelling nowadays), Brianna, and Emily. Male names with these endings have turned female before such as Leslie and Ashley. I think Jacoby is ripe for the turning to a girls’ name. According to BabyNames-dot-com, Jacoba is the feminine version of Jacob, but I had always heard Jacobina. I’m not sure I like either. Right now, Jacoby is still popular for boys because parents are looking for alternatives to Jacob since Jacob is currently the #1 name in the US.

Many of my favorite girls’ names fall into the male name with feminine suffix category. My favorite name for a daughter should I ever be a father is Xaviera. Xavier is a fairly popular boys’ name right now, but Xaviera is practically unheard. Ms. Hollander was 40 years ago and it wasn’t even her real name, but a pen name.

Adding feminine suffixes to male names or flipping boys’ names with feminine endings into girls’ names is a great way to be unique without being too unique. The people should be fairly familiar with the boys’ version. How about Davida? It would be better, IMO, than creative spelling of common names which is a pet peeve of mine. I first encountered it in middle school when a lab partner of mine was named Jasmine, but spelled “Jazmyn.” I have hated it ever since.

Also, since the -aiden craze doesn’t seem to be ending soon, may I suggest Zaden(spell it Xaden for xtra kewl points) or Slayden. I think those names would be awesome.

Almost all the names you mention make me want to vomit, but that’s just me.

I’ve never even heard it used as a boy’s name.

What names don’t make you vomit?

The most famous bearer of Jacoby is a baseball player for the Boston Red Sox. You’re right, it’s not that popular. According to BabyNames-dot-com, it is ranked#620 for American boys’ names.

I hate adding the ina, it reminds me of when Ralph Kramden wanted to adopt a baby boy and call him Ralph, and the baby for adoption turned out to be a girl so Ralph took her and called her “Ralphina”

I like unusual names but I think it’s better to go use names that were popular 100 years ago. I had a thread on “Old Lady Names,” one I liked was Honora

I know a Xaviera… and it’s her real name too. So there.

For some reason or another, “Jacoby” sounds like an adjective describing something that is reminiscent of Jacob (along with Jacobish and Jacobesque), which makes it a terrible name. It is, however, somewhat better than some other possibly alternatives like Jacobette, Jacobina and Jacobella.

Seriously, some names are just meant to be used by one sex. It’s better that way.
