James White's "Sector General" - Has there ever been any kind of adaptation to other media?

I am re-reading one of my favorite series of Sci-Fi novels: James White’s “Sector General” stories, about a galactic hospital in deep space that caters to a fantastic variety of beings with wildly diverging needs in terms of breathing atmospheres, nutrients, gravity, etc.

The stories (in my opinion) are fascinating, and the concept of an “alien medical drama” with mystery illnesses (compounded by the fact that very often the patients are of a completely different species, and sometimes even species that had not ever met before by the protagonists) seems rather appealing to me.

I have looked around, but I have not found any mention of any attempt ever made to adapt these stories to a TV series or movie. This surprises me – I would say that the basic concept cries for such an adaptation… And nowadays I am sure that advances in SFX technology and CGI would not make it impossible to show on screen Naydrad the Kelgian nurse, Thornnastor the Tralthan diagnostician, or Prilicla the Cinrusskin doctor…

I am genuinely surprised that nobody has attempted an adaptation. Has it been attempted and it is just that my google-fu is weak?

What do you think? Do you agree or disagree that “Sector General” would make a great TV-series?

EDIT – Aaaaand, now I see that there was a thread like this one not long ago ( Would a Sector General tv series be popular? - Cafe Society - Straight Dope Message Board ). Disregard this one XD
