Jane Fonda

Theres talk on twitter, with video, which says Jane had said pro lifers should be murdered. Are they taking this out of context?

It seems obviously clear it was a joke. It’s never a good idea to rely on “talk on twitter”.

Sadly, it took awhile to wade through all the right-wing reporting to get to an actual account of what happened.

When the right actually wants to execute women who’ve had abortions, it’s hard to tell who is serious anymore.

Who on the right has said that? Who has said that having an abortion should be penalized with the death penalty?
Maybe one or two wackos have said it but it is a far cry from a couple of crazies to "The Right"™.

Well, here’s a bill in Missouri.

SB 699 - This act repeals provisions of law relating to the performance and regulation of abortions and establishes the “Abolition of Abortion in Missouri Act”. This act adds a definition of “person” to the criminal code to include a human being from the moment of conception. Additionally, this act grants the Attorney General and prosecuting and circuit attorneys the authority to enforce certain provisions of the criminal code relating to offenses against the person, including murder and manslaughter, as they relate to abortion, regardless of any contrary federal act, law, treaty, decision, order, rule, or regulation.

And here’s South Carolina

A new bill introduced in the South Carolina Statehouse could put the death penalty on the table for women who get an abortion.

House Bill 3549 is an amendment to the South Carolina Prenatal Equal Protection Act of 2023 and would define “person” to include an unborn child at any stage of development. This would ensure that an unborn child who is a “victim of homicide” or “victim of assault” is given the same protections under state laws – including, up to the death penalty.

And Texas

A Texas lawmaker has filed a bill that would abolish and criminalize abortions, leaving women and physicians who perform the procedure to face criminal charges that could carry the death penalty

I think we’re past “one or two wackos” and into a right wing movement.

Thank you for the links.

Killing a woman for having an abortion is the “logical” extension of the evangelical right position. The “party of life” will do anything to ensure the sanctity of life, and they’ll kill you if you disagree.

The wackos are in charge, and the Right are doing jack shit about it. The mythological sensible Right are about as influential as the Log Cabin Republicans.

Yeah, ask Liz Cheney, who a decade ago would have been a Republican hero. Today she’s a Republican outcast.

Not in 2023.
