The brilliant urbanologist Jane Jacobs has died.
Her book The Death and Life of Great American Cities was an eye-opener for me, and I suspect for many others.

It was for me. Wonderful, wonderful book.
What an amazing woman. Breaks my heart that she’s gone… She helped make sure New York and Toronto didn’t end up covered in expressways like many other cities did in the 60’s and 70’s…
The world is a colder place without her… sigh…
I saw this on one of the video screens in the subway this evening, while I was waiting for a train.
Time for new people to pick up the torch of livable, human-scaled, sustainable cities that she held so high…
I’m on it. wan smile
I know of her from CBC’s “Ideas”.
Me too.
I saw the notice in the newspaper this morning and it stopped me cold.
I read a lot of urban studies books in college and none have stuck with me like hers.
