I didn’t know how else to describe them. What are they doing that makes them sound correct, and yet discordant at the same time? It’s certainly a sound you don’t hear much nowadays.

A lot of the old Disney movies had that same sound to them. Here’s one I could find quickly, but I remember a lot of them had them during the opening sequence. I still here them when I take my daughter over to my Mom’s and she watched the same VHS tapes that I used to watch when I was little.
I think the equipment they used back then had something to do with it.
