January's big fat weight loss thread

Hooray for you!!!

Thank you! And thank you Tapiotar

Of course, now I’m jealous of fachverwirrt’s 5K run - still, it’s something to aim towards

I haven’t run since Sunday night, and will give it another night or two before I go out again - I can feel twinges in my legs that will turn into shinsplits unless I take it easy. Of course the non-runners I know don’t realise this and asked me why I didn’t go out last night!

Man, my ability to GAIN weight is mind-boggling. I gave myself a couple of weeks completely off program, did some baking and some sugar-loading and BAM! Gained 17 pounds in about 21 days!

I feel confident that at least 5 or so will melt off in just a few days of being back to my carbless life, but the rest will be much slower, because it always is.

Thank the heavens my carbless life is a permanent choice (with periodic breaks…next one is planned for a few days in May, around my birthday). It’s much easier to view my carbless life as my normal life and my infrequent breaks as the short-term. Makes it much easier psychologically than looking at it as “going on a diet to lose weight”. Hard to explain…

I’m glad I have my bike now, that will help a little with the weight and a lot with everything else. I did about 12 miles the other day with no problem at all. My dad is about 15 or 16 round-trip, I think I’ll go see him in a few days.

I lost 2.4 lbs. this week after a lousy holiday season. I started doing Dance Central on my xBox, and while I don’t get all of the moves perfectly, I’m able to do it for an hour or more. Airman and I also went on a bike ride today to take advantage of the mild weather. Being active is definitely helping!

Rained today so I didn’t walk.
Supper was one broiled pork chop, about half a cup of green beans and same of rice. Put some artificial sweetner on the rice.

Drumming my fingers on the desk. How long till breakfast?

Feeling smug. Went for my 45 minute walk this morning and followed it up with 30 minutes on the treadmill.

Now for some lovely muesli for breakfast. Yuck.

It’s freaking fifty outside! I love it. I got out to walk for a bit–put off going back to swimming to do it, but still, it was so very, very nice.

Of course my exercise on Thursday will likely be snow shoveling…

I’ve been battling stomach cramps and diarrhea for a week and a half now. Something in my diet is trying to kill me and I can’t figure out what. But I still went to the gym dutifully 5 days last week. I literally had to run to the bathroom on some days, and not go on the elliptical one day because the bathroom was too far away (and you can’t just “hop off” the machine without wiping it down.)

I was pretty much fine all weekend (took the opportunity to swim since I felt ok) then yesterday I was sick just before the gym and was fine during and had an amazing workout. Today I was feeling fine at worked then all of a sudden I puked for what seemed for no reason.

Anaaaanyway…I decided just to stay home today. Well walk the dog, do a little grocery shopping and just not tempt fate at the gym.

I honestly think it might be raw broccoli that is making me sick. Or eggs. I’ve eaten those both on all the days I’ve been sick. Except yesterday maybe.

Confusing!

There’s definitely something going around because I had a touch of it yesterday. (It will take a while for me to eat shrimp and brown rice again!) You may have picked up a bug somewhere, and if it doesn’t go away in the next few days, I’d see a doctor.

This is why I cannot even fantasize about successfully losing weight by cutting calories and eating a “balanced” (ha) diet. All it succeeds in doing is making me obsessed with food.

Low carb is the next best thing to having an “off” switch.

Just done gym session for the day, got 8.2k in in 50 minutes avg speed of 9.8 k/h. Weighing in tomorrow…

Official weigh-in and lost 3.8 pounds

I think the evening before binge cost me. Group leader said we could use all our weekly points at once. My recommendation if you do this, do not do it the day before weigh-in!

Work, life and a nasty chest infection and associated cough have got in the way of my exercise plans for the past week or so. Next week will be better. I am still within my WW points and my jeans feel looser so hopefully another couple of pounds off on Friday.

This is almost certainly water weight and will come right off after you go back to cutting out carbs.

I have heard of people who usually eat low-carb cheating on “The Biggest Loser”-type contests by eating a ton of carbs before their first weigh-in so that they grossly inflate their “Before” weight with water weight. On another low-carb board I used to frequent, one man put on 15 pounds of water weight in one weekend before such a contest.

I lost a pound this week. It’s maybe closer to two but I hesitated to give myself that second pound (it’s an old scale - need a new one!). My Fitness Pal is working great for me, and getting back on the elliptical is going well. My husband is doing it too so that really helps.

Ten days into the 30 Day Shred my c-section scar began to bother me. That really freaked me out because I haven’t felt a single twinge from it in six months. So I only did half a workout today… sigh.

I’m trying to get my eating cleaned up, though. Since that’s what really makes me lose weight (exercise is just, you know, garnish) maybe I’ll get somewhere.

Yeah, if I get a little crazy, it’s going to be Tuesday, after I weigh in. That way, I’ve got a week to deal with it. I tend not to use my weekly points unless I have to.

Checked in today at 108.6 Kilos, which I think is a loss on the week of 1.4 kilos. I last officially checked in on 15/12 at 108, but got up to 110 over Xmas, so the holiday damage is nearly undone.

For people who follow research, there’s a good piece in the NYTimes on how exercise helps turn white fat into brown fat, which is more metabolically active and helps prevent further weight gain and diabetes. It may inspire you to exercising on a day when you don’t want to.
exercise and brown fat

Interesting article. Thansk for posting.
