Japanese iPhone dictionary app plus mail copy and paste function

Is there any way to copy characters from a mail you receive on an iPhone and paste it into a dictionary? If not, will this be available under the 3.0 version coming out? I get mail from my Japanese friends, and no longer have an easy way to look up the kanji that gets sent to me.

Barring this, what’s the best Japanese/English dictionary that people have found? I loaded several free apps but none of them seem to have it all in one place-- handwriting recognition, search by radical, common compound list, search in English and by reading, etc. I don’t mind paying for an app, but I don’t want to have to buy several to find the best one.

Oh, and will the 3.0 upgrade wipe my data? Will I have to reload all the apps and such?

Briefly, since I’m typing this from my iPhone, yes you should be able to cut and copy the characters into a dictionay. The new software will be released next Wednesday. Oh and upgrading to 3.0 will not wipe your data. It’s backed up on your computer and you’ll be able to reinstall it on your phone.
