Jazz Music/Musicians and Improvisation

I don’t think of people dancing to the music when I play, but I’m moved and supported when I see people moving to the music, tapping their toes, snapping fingers, bobbing heads, wagging fingers…something. And I have noticed that when I know the OTHER people are into it, too, I often find things happen that may not have other wise done so. On the other hand, for me, jazz is not so much about dance and the listeners, but about making something with other musicians. There is no greater joy in the world for me than to make music with someone. Finding, defining, and developing a sense of a piece is creation on the fly with like-minded others. I never found words to describe that feeling, but swinging with others is the thing for me.
