Jazz Threads on SDMB -- a directory

The recent success of Jazz albums: what are your ten favories? started 10-19-2014, 09:26 PM by MrKnowItAll has me curious if other threads on the general subject of Jazz need to be cataloged for easy look-up.

Here are some I started:

Please add to this list any threads you can remember being on the topic.

Thanks, Zeldar – this is a big help.
About four years ago, someone asked for advice on finding some mellow jazz that was sophisticated but not too challenging. I can’t find the thread now, but the Doper consensus was…<drum roll>…Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue.

Kind of a no-brainer, right? In fact, I think I’ve seen KOB cited as THE most popular jazz recording in everybody’s collection where there’s at least one jazz record. I bet Brubeck’s Time Out is a tight second, if not #1, in similar situations. The fun thing would be: what’s #3?

I’ll try to Google “SDMB Kind of Blue” to see what pops up. Thanks, JKellyMap, for the post.

Here’s all I got on that Google search. Maybe I need different keywords:

Here’s the Hate Jazz? thread I started: Hate Jazz but wish you knew a bit more about why? A Jazz 101 thread. - Cafe Society - Straight Dope Message Board

Great thread! I see I replied with no real contribution. Then it died! :frowning:

Hmmm…no, that’s not it. I remember I suggested Kind of Blue and Clark Terry’s Color Changes. Maybe it was more like five or six years ago.

No matter. The threads you linked to, and the others mentioned by others in this thread, are covering the bases quite adequately.

Here’s a good one from 2005, started by ultrafilter:

The essential music library series! Holy cow, it’s from 05! Well, even though it’s old that’s a good one. There is a thread for every genre. The whole series is worth a read.
