JEB! says he is not supporting Trump or Hillary

First, I was taking about Jeb, the smart one. But being wrong about what is good for the country is a lot different from putting the party first. W’s fairly reasonable immigration reform program was not exactly Republican dogma. Bush letting the Fed do the right thing during the financial crisis also went up against his party. Compare that to Senator Turtle who wanted to block any progress in order to beat Obama no matter how many people it hurt.

Considering how much Jeb! fucked up this primary, I’m pretty sure he’s much dumber then his elder brother where it counts. Sure, he might know more random policy trivia and use slightly more inflated language to insinuate himself to the soccer moms, but he was absolutely wrong about the mood or opinion of the Republican electorate.

That’s much more applicable to TRUMP who is advocating for his own nationalistic worldview regardless of what the rest of the Republican Party thinks.

Not really-the Republican donor class wants plenty of cheap labour from developing countries, especially if they come under “guest worker programs” that creates an unfree class of labour which is why Sanders voted against the 2006 immigration bill.

Pretty much any President would have done that.

Republican Congressional instrangience isn’t exactly unprecedented (see the 1990s).

To be fair to Jeb, no one foresaw Trump’s success and the depth of discontent among the party base. Nor was anyone prepared to take on the Donald. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he ran again, with a somewhat less passive campaign strategy.

Nobody, and I mean nobody cares what a loser like Jeb! says, does, thinks or scratches into his cave wall with an antler. He’s a certifiable moron, and he’s the smart one in the family.

This thread is making me Hungary.

(Oh, come on, you knew that was coming…) :stuck_out_tongue:

Actually, Poppy is. The rest is just kneejerk, unsupported opinion.

On the contrary, it is he who is backed up the cold, hard facts like the voting returns from Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina.

That he’s a certifiable moron? Try again.

In the political sense, absolutely yes.

You misspelled “disband the Party.”

Republicans should run a third candidate if they can pull off the ballot access.

Although at this point it might be better to pour all that Presidential money that Trump won’t be getting from the big donors into Senate races. At the very least, the GOP can blow the Dems out of the water in lower ballot races funding-wise by surrendering on the White House. If money means as much as Bernie Sanders and Robert Reich claim, then the billionaire class should be able to help Republicans hold the Senate fairly easily.

538 points out that Republicans are avoiding a Trump-style crackup in downballot races:

Looks like these discussions are limited to primary battles, not the massive bloodletting that will happen in November.

Be careful what you wish for. The downfall of Turkey will lead to the destruction of China and the overflow of Greece.

And who would that be? This was supposed to be the election with the Republicans’ Deep Bench.

Jeb! himself was supposed to be one of their bigger names.

Who is out there who could be a reputable Republican-Independent, who hasn’t already been beaten by Trump?

Cue elucidator in 3… 2…

Michael Bloomberg would have had a chance to do it, but he bowed out months ago and it doesn’t look like he’s riding in to the rescue any time soon.

Plus, the deadline for getting on the ballot in Texas was yesterday. So if you’ve got a Republican(I) running, they start out without the largest red state.

I think forces from the Canary Islands could be counted on to handle the outcome quite enthusiastically.

All they’ll do is tweet about it.
