Jeep Question. (Possibly Alternator?)

The past few days, I’ve noticed my headlights flicker a bit when I’m warming up my car, and when I shift from park to reverse/drive. It the lights also dim and the rpms drop slightly when I put up one of the windows. Today it at a stop light, the lights got dim, the rpms dropped and it stalled. As soon as it stalled the lights got a little brighter, and it started up fine. Is the alternator? Is it the battery?

It’s a 2004 Grand Cherokee 4.7 V8. Google results make me think it’s the alternator, but it the lights don’t dim all the time, just sometimes. I’m taking it in Wednesday, I just would like to know a little better what it could be before I go in.

Take it to a parts store like Auto Zone and they will test it for free.

A shot in the dark,
I had a somewhat similar problem and found the starter wasn’t disengaging from the engine. It was also noticeable with the unique noise.
But there are many here much more knowledgeable that may help you.

If it started, then the alternator may not be frozen, but I’d get it checked soon. If the alternator is shot, then your battery is not recharging and soon you won’t be able to start the vehicle.
