I’ve enjoyed Jeff Goldblum since 10 Speed and Brown Shoes, but in this one I just get the feeling he is just doing the old Barny Miller character Dietrich. Anybody else get this feeling? Well…for those of you who remember Dietrich, of course.
No, he’s channeling Jeff Goldblum, just like he does in every role he plays.
I don’t watch the show (well I do, but on DVD and I’m nowhere near up to Jeff Goldblum) but right now I’m watching Barney Miller (also on DVD). I just started season 2 and Steve Landesburg is a guest crook on an early episode. I don’t remember when Dietrich showed up.
My mom does watch however, and just a couple of days ago mentioned that she doesn’t like the direction the character seems to be going. I asked her the question posed in your OP, and she said she thinks he was more Dietrich-y prior to the current season and she preferred him that way. She said he just does a lot of staring now.
Loved Dietrich, love Goldblum… But I just don’t see the connection. Sorry…TRM
