Jehova's witnesses and strict interpretation of the bible

earlier today i passed a guy on the corner who was passing out pamphlets and telling people to convert to “the one true religion” the jehova’s witnesses. i stopped and talked to him a for a minute, and knowing that jehova witnesses follow the bible very strictly, i asked the question: if adam and eve were created by god, and they had two sons, where did the rest of humanity come from? granted cain killed abel, but does that mean that only one of them had sex with their mother, or does that mean that adam and eve had more kids, and then cain, and maybe before his death, abel were having sex with their sisters? The guy stood their for a couple minutes, called me a Catholic prick and told me to leave, but it left me confused, how do they explain such a thing?

Apparently they don’t.

This topic has come up before in great debates so you should pobably search there. The mods may move this thread there as well depending on what path it takes.

I found this explanation.

Obviously you haven’t read Genesis, where it talks about Adam and Eve having many sons and daughters.

Fat Bald Guy , obviously you didn’t read the entire thing where I asked about cain and abel(just to help you, adam and eve’s sons) and how they explain having sex with their sisters. there are catholics who view adam and eve and noah’s ark as stories with messages contained in them. i was wondering how jehova’s witnesses take having sex with a sibling or parent, so save the witty remarks until the question has been answered.

Since this is GQ, I supose we should try for a definitive answer.

From “Genesis Inspires Faith, Hope and Courage”,Watchtower, 6/15/1983

4:17—Where did Cain get his wife?
Adam “became father to sons and daughters.” (Genesis 5:4) So Cain took one of his sisters as a wife. Later, God’s Law to the Israelites did not permit the marriage of a fleshly brother and sister.—Leviticus 18:9.

I find it unusual that any JW wouldn’t know this. They need do extensive Bible studies before they can be baptised. I also find it astounding that a JW swore at you. It’s almost unbelievable that one told you to leave. Normally one needs to be fairly forceful to get them to leave you alone. Are you sure it was a JW because it sure doesn’t sound like one.
