Jelly Bean Art

Here is a portrait made of a mosaic of jelly beans.

I’d like to try my hand at doing something like that at home.

What do you suppose the artist glued the jellybeans to? Plain white posterboard? Wood?

Also, if you looked at one of these up close, what color would you see between the beans? Just plain white? The same color as the beans?

If anyone is familiar with making mosaics, or has actually seen or made something like this, I’d love to hear your thoughts on how it’s done.

Thanks.

I think I saw some on the factory tour (http://jellybelly.com/Cultures/en-US/Fun/Tours/Fairfield+Visitor+Center.htm) but it was from a pretty big distance, as I recall, plus it was several years ago so I could be wrong. If you’re ever in the area and have the chance to take the tour, maybe you should try to bring binoculars in with you.

Anyway, by my extremely rough estimate, there are thousands of jellybeans in that picture, so it would be fairly expensive to make your own. Maybe if you got good at it you could get Jelly Belly to pay you.
