I believe it is, through the World Service.
World Service used to be funded via the Foreign Office budget, but it was ran independently, same as any other BBC service. Its funding got folded into the general BBC fee budget a few years ago.
I know nought about her, but–is there a rule that English-speaking countries have to have a thickheaded boor named Abbott in politics?
I don’t think it’s got anything to do with the BBC. It’s a combination of Corbyn giving a stupid answer to a fair question, and me having a poor memory.
Ah, thanks.
Par for the course.
A rare lapse; my own memory is like a sieve these days.
Corbyn taking direction from Diane Abbott
This clown doesn’t have a position on immigration or free movement of people? Pick a position and stay consistent and don’t listen to fucking Diane Abbott.
We British Dopers get double the fun: Trump and Corbyn!
If only it weren’t actually serious.
You forgot Boris Johnson.
I can’t think of one of any prominence in the U.S.
I’m desperately trying to not remember him!
Corbyn had such a great opportunity to raise awareness about the NHS, but - I think - he didn’t unpick any of the key issues. It’s such a shame; despite the Red Cross’ having a headline grabbing ‘…it’s the apocalypse!’ meltdown.
He failed to mention that the Red Cross has been paid by the NHS to provide transport for some time now. He failed to mention that G4S - the company that usually provides transport - are paid to provide the NHS with an inadequate service; with little possibility of a new tender being put out to replace them…market forces, etc etc.
He didn’t talk much about how all this is compounded by the fact that bottom-of-the-barrel social care - not provided by the NHS - is stopping practitioners from safely discharging patients and adding to the re-admission fines.
Corbyn simply did a lot of what he does best: much hand-wringing about point-scoring issues that fail to address the problem in question.
I think he’s still very much a disaster, but what’s the alternative?
Texas governor Greg Abbott isn’t Tony Abbott, but he still gets caught in false steps at times.
Now you’ve made me think of him, Johnson does not compare to Trump and Corbyn. Johnson has a sharp mind and plays the buffoon; the other two don’t have sharp minds aren’t playing.
Tristam Hunt resigns as MP for Stoke-on-Trent
From my understand, this is one of the constituencies that would have been abolished after the Commons is reduced to 600 seats. I’m sure he didn’t want to have to deal with having to stand in a new constituency against the Corbyn purists.
Well, this is no surprise, it’s just a shame Corbyn couldn’t deliver a message in a postman’s sack:
This was either the cheapest of jibes, or a rather unfortunate turn of phrase.
Eh? All I meant was that the occasional misstep, or* faux pas,* seems to be a trait of the Australian and Texan Abbotts.
Yet another threat of front bench resignations as Corbyn imposes a 3 line whip on the Article 50 vote
Corbyn often defied the whip when he was a gadfly backbencher. But, he is a total fool for trying this. If he has any sense he’ll reverse course and allow a free vote.
There are two by-elections today to replace Labour MPs who have resigned. If Labour loses both of them, there might be additional pressure on Corbyn to resign.
