Jerk is warnable now?

Did you ever think that maybe you guys have out-Ruled yourselves–out of existence? If you are a sentient being, it MUST feel that way to you sometimes (were you to be honest about it) even if you are not allowed to admit it. Suppose you hang on to just a* little *bit of integrity and abandon this embarrassing crusade? Other, better mods have done so-- it’s no shame if you do so too. In fact it could be worn as a badge of honor.

Some might say you are behaving in a dishonorable way-- but that is just TOO naughty for these parts so I guess I’ll just have to settle for calling you a Prince Among Men. You do see how bizarre this has become, right? Leave now and keep a shred of self respect. Join us in uncensored, adult conversation-land.

Or, close this thread NOW (or better yet, just remove all the offensive portions of the posts. Or, simply disappear it. Like Pinochet).

I intended to say “this” to Leander’s post… But you pretty much beat me to it.

I agree with you that under normal circumstances Tuckerfan’s “jerks” comment would require Mod action.
Right under Ed’s first real attempt to start making amends… bad timing, dude.
And you realized that, but… perhaps a penny short and an hour late.

As some others have said, this epitomizes the unease I (and I think I speak for many of us) am/are feeling here lately – it’s not the New Rules; we could have dealt with those. It’s the way they were handed down; the way nobody listened to anyone complaining about the way they were handed down… ad infinitum.

I love the Dope. Right now, I have no particular plans to stop reading and posting here… at least not completely. But there are only so many hours in a day, and where this used to be the only online community I frequented, there are now two more vying for my free time… So unless there is some decisive action by TPTB to alleviate my personal unease here lately, I’ll probably… well, I’ll still be here. But less than before.

Maybe I should have posted in the original thread, but I’m not going to wade through it, and most of what I have to say has probably been said, so I’ll leave it here – there is a real trust problem right now. I think (and hope) I’ve never registered on anyone’s radar as one of the *offenderati *or as a chronic whiner, but even I have been troubled by the latest turns of events, in ways some of which I can put a finger on, and in some which I can’t.
At a risk of repeating myself (and of proclaiming my own virtues, too, I guess :o) THERE IS A REAL PROBLEM when generally supportive and non-boat-rocking posters like myself feel uneasy enough about the Boards atmosphere to start looking for additional venues, just in case I truly tire of this one.

It’s up to you (not just you specifically, Skip, “you” Mods and Admins – but yes, *also *“you,” personally.)
Please don’t let that happen.

Skip, you are an SDMB moderator.

Hey, hey, hey! Remember, no insults. You trying to get banned or something?

NEW RULE CHANGE ALERT

(shouldn’t these be stickied or given their own thread?)

:dubious: Since when?

Although, I kinda like it. But congrats Skip! You’ve single-handedly changed the entire character of GD and even more than the infamous Rule #2, you’ve completely changed the Pit. And with about a paragraph less than it took Ed to do.

And, as someone who doesn’t like the way GD is set up very much, I don’t particularly object to the change as such…but-heh-I suspect that the GDenziens will object to it, loudly.

Just wait until Lekatt realizes he can shut down “All psychics are frauds” discussions, just by appearing in the thread. Hell, all “All RePubbilcans/DeMokrats are the Suxxors!” threads can be shut down by just one member of the pitted groups making a single posting in the thread.

That’s gonna go over well.

C’mon guys–don’t make up rules on the fly.

(And I’m fully prepared to go back and present hundreds of cites if challenged. Hell, a simple search on Bricker’s name is all it’ll take to provide dozens. This rule has never existed before.)

Folks, this thread has turned into a train wreck, so I’m closing it. I think we all need to step back from the computer, play with the kids, take a long walk, clear our heads, give some thought to what’s really important.
