Was there a major scene cut from the movie?
In the flick as it is now, Jerry places a copy of his “mission statement” in Tidwell’s kitchen drawer (after Dorothy goes on the rant about him being broke). It’s never heard of again, but the “how” and “when” it goes in the drawer makes me think that Tidwell’s wife found it (and read it) at some point. Did this get cut from the movie? A fairly important point got cut if so, IMHO.
I am 99% sure that the kitchen you are speaking of is Jerry’s. Remember that the night before Jerry and Dorothy spent the night at her house and the next morning Jerry says to Ray over Apple Jacks that they have a big fax coming (Tidwell’s contract offer).
Then in the next scene, Jerry and Dorothy are in the kitchen where Jerry is setting out donuts. He says to Dorothy to hope for a big offer so they can move out of “this room.”
Also, this kitchen looks much smaller than the one Rod is dancing around in shouting “show me the money.”
I love this movie - thanks for giving me a reason to watch a piece of it again. 
Dang it, now I have to go watch that scene again. Your theory does make sense though.
