it’s upsetting that I said in MPSIMS that I smoked my first cigarette and DID NOT PARTICULARLY LIKE IT and all these self-righteous meanyheads jump all over me as though they wouldn’t preach the “live and learn” lifestyle to anyone in a different scenario. Ugh how annoying. I bet each one of them has smoked more than me in their boring lifetimes.
And then in a different post everyone thinks by “tripping” I meant drug use, when I literally meant, tripping while walking.
In which Qazzz, that bold rebel who knows everything there is to know about simply everything, not like us folks who’ve been addicted to cigarettes for 16 years or so and are trying to tell him that smoking is about as cool as eating benzene on your fucking Cheerios, explains that he tried his first cigarette, didn’t like it much, but may try another one sometime because it made him feel so cool.

You know, among the snarky remarks there’s a lot of good advice for you in that thread, Qazzz. Why not clue into the fact that in about an hour, a dozen people jumped in to vehemently decry the evils of smoking, and NOT A SINGLE PERSON mentioned that smoking isn’t such a bad thing?
Take a poll of any and all smokers you see in the next day, and ask them if any of them enjoyed their first cigarette. I will guarantee that at least 95% of them will say they hated their first cigarette. Then ask each of them how many times they tried to quit.

My guess is that he’s seen the various sympathy threads, realized that we actually care about fellow Dopers, and felt like cashing in on some free sympathy. We’re being whooshed. Either that or Quazz is actually 12. A normal, healthy adult just does not, in my experience, think like this.
A caveat: Quazz, if you really are that stupid, and you make yourself sick 20 or 30 years down the road, and so end up taking hospital space from someone who didn’t make themselves sick with their own idiocy - you should know you will have acted like the biggest, most selfish fool imaginable. If you end up needing an organ transplant because of the smoking, and someone else doesn’t get it, who needs it for no fault of there own - then you are scum. You aren’t just hurting yourself, you’re potentially hurting other people.
Note, however, that this doesn’t apply to the other smokers on the board. You guys didn’t know how dumb it was, and now many of you are trying to quit - and a bunch of you are trying to stop Quazz from being an idiot. For you, I have deep respect.
I was gonna start smoking because I started to take notice of all the “smoke breaks” my co-workers take. Fuckin’ horseshit. I wish I could leave work at least once an hour for 5 minutes.

Anyway, people are obviously very bad at reading and interpreting posts, for I never said that I was going to take up smoking. I simply stated the opinion that I felt cool when I tried it.

There is no wrong or right to be judged about an opinion, as jackelope thinks, so I was expressing my frustration with the way people put words in one’s mouth (or post).
I have no doubt in my mind that smoking is bad for people, causes cancer, etc. I also doubt very much that I would ever adopt the vice. But I will not revoke an opinion that smoking can be considered attractive or cool by some people. If that weren’t the case, thousands of movies and print ads wouldn’t have used the images of people smoking cigarettes to enhance their appeal. If that weren’t the case, millions of teenagers wouldn’t begin the habit.
So a great big FUCK OFF AND LEARN HOW TO READ to all those little-brained guys and gals telling me that I’m a dumb shit who needs to reconsider the evils of smoking (which I had never disputed in the first fucking place).
