Jesus for the Non-Religous

Haven’t read this book by Bishop Spong yet, would you, should you, read it?

This is on my reading list but I haven’t gotten to it yet. Spong is one of the more thoughtful and provocative theologians out there, and I can’t help thinking that by and large, Christianity is going to end up being his sort of Christianity in the distant future… but maybe that’s just because I’m a non-believer and an optimist.

In any case, based on his past works, I’m looking forward to this one too, and anyone who has read it: I’m also interested in how you think it stacks up with his other work.

I must say that I am intrigued, but confess that I am unlikely to read it. It seems to echo some or many of my own feelings about Jesus. But I have so very many books in the queue right now that I doubt I will find the time to look at this one.

In the meantime, you can consult Atheists for Jesus.

I *thought *I had recognized the name. I’ve had him in my purchase queue for a long time, but it was *The Sins of Scripture: Exposing the Bible’s Texts of Hate to Reveal the God of Love *

I own a copy of that one. I’m at a place now where I’m reading more works by people like him, Bart Ehrman, and the fellow who maintains www.christianagnostic.com.
