I think of:
Halvah
Chalah
Knish
Latke
Hammentaschen
Gefilte Fish
Pickled Herring
Matzah (in its various forms)
Dill Pickles
Corned Beef on Rye
Lox and Bagels
What was the sauce I had with tsimmes at Reubens?
Zenster, your remark about there being so much good Jewish food reminds me of an article I read in a cooking magazine(and naturally I didn’t save it). It was about Jewish cooking from India. EVen since the Middle Ages there was a group/colony of Jews living in India, and it was fascinating to read the recipes. Used Indian spices, veggies, and other ingredients, but prepared in kosher fashion. Damn, I wish I still had the magazine issue.
The first Jewish food that comes to mind is my grandma’s semi-famous Matzah Ball Soup. She only makes it once a year (for the seders) and when she does she makes an enourmous ammount (expecialy 'cause i’ve got a zillion relitives, and when serving food for twenty-thirty hungry people, you’ve got to make lots of everything). You know…I’ve had lot’s of matzah ball soups…but this is by far the best I’ve ever had. As far as favorite foods, this comes in second (right after Godiva Chocolate, and right before that linguine bolognes (sp?) that I had the other night).
