How about An American Tail or any of its sequals?
To the extent of my knowledge of the Old Testament, yes. The commentaries on the DVD talk about how they had Rabbis working as script consultants at every step to ensure faithfulness to the Bible. The one change that stands out in my memory was the change of a song lyric from “You can make miracles when you believe,” to “There can be miracles when you believe,” because only God can make miracles. If they were changing stuff over such a minor (to this atheist, anyway) semantic/theological point, I think that speaks well to the movie’s over-all fidelity.
I’ll second “The Jazz Singer”.
I went to a catholic grade school and our whole class watched it in 6th grade.
All the kids loved it. By the end we were all singing “Coming to America”.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat?
Okay, with Paul Newman and Eva Marie Saint. Guess it’s been a while.
Hell, show the kids some Marx Bros.
Sorry if I was unclear. This is indeed a Jewish Sunday school at our synagogue, where the purpose is to teach these kids about their faith and such and, ultimately, to prepare them for their Bar/Bat Mitzvahs.
So yeah, these kids are all (to my knowledge) Jewish.
Curse you yax, you beat me to it!
So 8 Crazy Nights is out?
How about watching two episodes of Rugrats - The Hanakah Special and the Passover special - depending on the age of the kids, it could be really popular.
