Exciting news for anyone who travels. I try to avoid JFK if I can, but sometimes it’s inevitable.
Given the rough and tumble world of NY and NYC politics plus the unions, this should be a fun ride, but I do hope they can finally bring JFK into the 21st century.
I’ve been flying in and out of JFK since I was a little kid but once I was an adult, I started noticing that JFK is unlike most other airports in that it had separate terminals for each airline, separated enough that you basically have to drive between them (or ride the airport shuttle bus). Anyone remember the Pan Am Worldport? Or the soaring TWA terminal (though that’s still there, sort of)?
Other airports have one or more giant terminal buildings in which various airlines co-exist. So it’s good they’re slowly moving in that direction.
LAX is like that, too, although some of the terminals are connected by underground tunnels (but the tunnels date from the mid 20th century, are narrow, and lack moving sidewalks so you have to walk the whole way). Having many smaller terminals is beneficial for travelers who are beginning or ending their trip there, as there’s less distance from the front door to the gate. But it’s terrible for travelers who are connecting there, at least if their connecting flight is in a different terminal.
