A 1995 Jeep Wrangler that JFK Jr. bought in 1998 is for sale on eBay: 1995 Jeep: Wrangler Sahara Owned by JFK Jr.
Currently it is at $33,400 and the reserve price has not yet been met.
What will the “winner” do? Drive it around? Hang around the country club saying, “Come on, Buffy. Let’s take a spin in John-John’s Jeep.”? Hold onto it for 50 years then hope to sell it for a million bucks? Pull a scam where he claims that it’s haunted by John’s ghost?
IYHO, what is the point of owning a famous person’s vehicle? Do you think it’s silly? Or smart?
I think it’s somewhat silly. However, I was watching the Sotheby’s Car Auction (the one they hold in Monaco every year), and they had this Ferrari F40 which was previously owned by Nigel Mansell (of Formula One and Indy Car fame). I remember thinking that THAT was pretty cool.
I’m sure the fact that JFK jr. is dead has something to do with it. Had the abovementioned F40 been owned by Ayrton Senna, I’m sure it would have sold for more than $85,000 (the price for which it went).
Well, of course Senna was a much better driver than Mansell as well, but I digress.
This is the Jeep he drove to the airport that night. A piece of American history.
Someone will buy it just to have it.
Sure, someone will buy it. But I don’t think it’s a piece of American History.
The auction is closed. It sold for $57,100.
