Is there much truth in the following? It appears in today’s Daily Mirror UK

YEARS HAVE DONE KENNEDY IMAGE NO FAVOURS Nov 22 2003

Christopher Hitchens

FOR my generation, now rapidly becoming grey and paunchy and dazzlingly, nay passionately active against the war with Saddam Hussein, the pictures from Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963, were a shared experience.

And you received permission to reprint this copyrighted story from whom?

Perhaps I should have paraphrased it but snipping was more convenient.
But is your objection based on concern about copyright infringement or are you just a JFK apologist?
I fear your Royal Family is as tainted as ours.

“Snipping” is taking aout pertinent sections and posting here. Wholesale copying and pasting of entire articles is not acceptable here. And there is some truth there, and some fancy. Yes, he had affairs and medical issues. No he PROBABLY would not have escalated Viet Nam like Johnson did.

Let’s get this straight. Are you saying that it would have been perfectly acceptable had I paraphrased this article and posted it as my own?

Wholesale copying, OR wholesale paraphrasing, conveys the whole picture while “snipping” from the original as you describe can be manipulatively selective.

I should add that the article in the Mirror invites the reader to e-mail the article to a friend. Is not a Newsgroup composed of “friends?”

Anyway, thanks for your comments.

A Mod will tell you the REAL rules, but common practice is to make a link to the entire article, and either paraphrase or c&p smaller sections, so as not to reproduce the article without the prior written consent of the author. What is LEGAL is one thing, what is BOARD RULES is another.

Like this:

Um, toscar, you’ve been here for more than two years, which should’ve given you plenty of time to know the rules. This board does not allow users to copy+paste whole articles. Snipping, is when you take a paragraph or two which illustrate your point, and then link to the original source.
Other than that, I have no comment.

Only those who relish cheap irony (sexcapades eventually lead to fatal head shot) will believe that. Kennedy was riding in an open limousine, in which his forward space was limited by the jump seats set up in front of him for Governor Connally and his wife. He was being shot at by a sniper from a sixth floor window. With a gunman that high above, there was no place to duck.

Twelve months after Kennedy’s assassination, Republican presidential candidate Barry Goldwater suffered one of the worst electoral defeats in presidential history against Kennedy’s vice president, Lyndon Johnson. There is no reason to believe that Kennedy himself could not have won in a landslide against Goldwater.

By the time of John Kennedy’s death, his father Joseph Kennedy was paralyzed and unable to speak after suffering a disabling stroke in 1961.

Here Hitchens stretches the truth to take a cheap shot. Michael Skakel, who was convicted of murdering his neighbor Martha Moxley when they were 15 years old, was not a Kennedy. His aunt married a Kennedy.

toscar, your OP is a violation of board rules. Please refer to UncleBill’s post for an explanation.

Please do not do this again.
