Around the holidays, we always do jigsaw puzzles, and they always get in the way. I keep planning to buy a jigsaw puzzle caddy. Has anyone had experience with them? Do they work? Are particular models better? They seem to run from $25 to $40. I don’t mind paying the extra if it’s worth it.
Thanks in advance for your opinions.
. . . I thought this thread was a job announcement. I’d make a great jigsaw puzzle caddy.
“Here’s a piece with a straight edge, a knob and two sockets, sir. And might I suggest you place that on the puzzle’s perimeter?”
My wife has been talking about the something similar lately, I think. She mentions a mat that you do the puzzle on, then if you need to move it, you roll it up. When you’re ready to resume the puzzle, unroll the mat and the pieces are in place. Is this what you mean?
She left me with the impression that they’re even less expensive than you estimate, maybe $10-15??
My wife has a Jigroll - essentially a large rectangle of felt-like material stored in a fat poster mailing tube - you roll it out flat, completel part of your jigsaw, then you roll it up around the outside of the tube and secure it with two elastic straps.
It works really well. You could make the thing yourself probably
I don’t do puzzles much these days but I do have a box-style caddy for when I’m in the mood for one. Mine has three trays (one for the puzzle itself and two for pieces) and two sheets of foam to keep everything in place; its price was ~$30.
I’ve had two of the caddies Jeff Olsen describes. One was cardboard and it didn’t hold up very well. The other was currogated plastic and while it did better the sticky pads that held the straps came unglued pretty quickly rendering it mostly useless. I haven’t found anything that will replace the sticky tabs thus far.
I’ve seen the tube rolls and am intrigued. I’ll have to try one!
With 2 kids and 4 cats you can’t leave a puzzle on the kitchen table for a day or two anymore
