Whatever they do, it won’t be that. They will probably make this move when Leno’s next contract is up, so they may just be done with him.
It does sound weirdly like NBC is setting itself up for another fiasco because Leno hasn’t said he’s tired of doing the show. Their main motivation is keeping their Next Tonight Show Host guy because they’re afraid of losing him and then being stuck with nobody whenever Leno is does hang it up. That was their motivation last time, too, and they blew it.
Is it weird that people spend so much time talking about this? The Tonight Show really doesn’t mean what it used to mean- it’s not what the entire country watches before bed anymore, and it hasn’t been in a long time. But I will say that Fallon annoyed the crap out of me when I saw him periodically on SNL and whenever I see something from Late Night, he’s really funny. The musical parodies are great.
WTF would him being funnier than Leno have to do with anything? The main question would be whether he’s funnier than Fallon. (I don’t know because I watch Craig now. Who watches NBC?)
I also know of no one who feels sorry that Conan got money. They are upset that Leno got to schmooze his way out of his contract and take a job that NBC promised to someone else.
And if you wanted to not make this thread about this topic, why in the world did you bring it up in the OP?
Do not agree. Conan is creepy and Fallon really isnt funny. Disaster is just around the corner for NBC.
What a disgrace to the good name of the Tonight Show. Jimmy Fallon is painfully unfunny and awkward. If Johnny Carson were alive today he’d be rolling in his grave
The Tonight Show ceased to matter whan Johhny retired, and it really ceased to matter when everybody switched to cable and got the internet.
Don’t worry, they’ll just give it back to Leno again in six months.
At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if the NBC suits dug up Carson and propped *him *up in the chair.

as the article states, Leno will be out of contract in Fall 2014 so that explains the timing.
If Leno wants to stay on the air I would imagine he will get offers from other networks.

Leno is a lot funnier than Fallon.
When Leno inevitably returns and takes the job back, Conan should give Fallon his show on TBS, and Conan can go back to late night on NBC.
If that happened, it would be hilarious and wonderful.
Or Conan could offer Leno his show … for six months.

If anybody here remembers Pat Sajak’s failure of a talk show, they certainly need never watch Fallon. Fallon should have stayed in his element.

Impossible. Leno is only funny in an ironic way, like, “Look at that guy trying to be funny, isn’t that funny!” The worst you could possibly say about anyone when comparing them to Leno is that they’re both equally unfunny. Leno is the absolute zero of funny.
