Job refusing to pay me, not sure what to do

This is my thinking also.

Working from home was not a regular part of your normal job, you were expected to show up at the office. You were trying to do the right thing by working as best you could from home, but you never recieved clear permission to do so.

Salaried, exempt workers can be expected to recieve phone calls and emails as part of the job, without compensation. From the viewpoint of the company you have not been to work for 2 weeks and aren’t due payment.

Get professional advice and good luck.

Thanks. The only reason I worked without a defined answer of if they would give me a laptop is because if they did, then I would still go 2 weeks unpaid. I kind of got screwed either way.

also, not sure if it matters but what my supervisor told me is the reason that my boss does not want to give me a laptop is because of a current employee that works from home in a different state and its “not working out”. I was only asking for this accommodation for a few weeks, not as a permanent “work from home” position.

Still file. In Calif there is a one waiting period. But if you are off lets say 3 weeks then file there is no retro pay and you would loos two weeks benifits. You file when you go out of work expecting to be out for more than a week. at the end of the second week a form is sent to you asking if you worked the second week if you have they send you a check with another form for the next week. If you go back to work you state that on the form and they do not send the check.

It may only be $150 a week but it is $150 a week you are loosing.

Unfortunately the conversation didn’t convey any information regarding your job status. It’s tough to infer an answer unless a lack of answer can be construed as a question asked and answered.
