Job seekers: how's it going?

Oh, and congrats to Khadaji, Two Many Cats and brewha on their recent hires as well!

+1. And to MrsSimmons as well. Kudos to all! The best of luck!

It’s shitty.

It seems less dire than about a year ago. There was a similar thread then just FULL of people saying they couldn’t find jobs.

I hope that’s true Palo. I got laid off in April last year and really had a tough time, then worked from December til May and back to being laid off. I worked two mornings last week and two days the week before so that’s already better than the situation last year.

I’ve been offered some bookkeeping work but not sure whether or how to do it. Not happy with the way the company has their accounts - they are not doing them at all and want me to backtrack on it. Need money but not a cooking job!

I wish I could get a job, but even if I could find something, I’ve got 4 kids (the oldest is 5) and therefore any job I found would have to be a pretty plum job to pay for that magnitude of day care. Hasn’t stopped me from looking, but I haven’t found anything even remotely workable.

I’ve been doing some part-time work from home freelance stuff, just so that I don’t go insane, but I definitely look forward to the day when I can “afford” to get back to work.

If I don’t get a job by August, I have to move. To work with my dad (he’s rather gleeful about this).

It feels horrible.

There is an Open House/job interview on Thursday. Pray god I get it. This state doesn’t seem to be that concerned about teachers and education, but hopefully I get in.

*edit: Sympathies to anyone else in the same position!

I got laid off a couple months ago. It was just the kick in the pants I needed to re-start my own freelance business again. I was quite successful before we moved to a new state, but I just didn’t want to spend the time building from scratch again. I (stupidly) thought I’d be more secure if I sought employment. I’ve gotten a few nibbles and have a few interviews for jobs coming up this week. I’m trying to stay positive, but it’s so demoralizing. I’d never been asked to leave a job for any reason before.

Finished a B.S. in Accounting in Dec. I’d like to do some temping to explore the field a bit and maybe find a good-fitting long-term position. I’ve posted resumes on a variety of agency sites and got a couple calls but no jobs yet. Employers all want x amount of related experience and in this job market they can demand/find it. The jobs recovery is so slow it seems pretty hopeless. I could study for CB or CPA licensure but both require relevant/paid accounting work experience, and I just found out specific additional courses are required just to apply to sit for the CPA exam. Just moribund right now.
