NPR reported yesterday that the Chicago Archdiocese has hired a full time exorcist. No demons have been cast out in the windy city yet but he is said to have exorcised at least 9 demons in Rome.
Actually, if urban legend holds true (holy oxymoron, Batman!), each archdiocese in the Catholic Church has an exorcist. This priest’s position is not mentioned and kept secret.
Someone please confirm/refute this. Its what I’ve always heard, but since its “secret”, there’s really no way of knowing, eh? But with the RCC, I would not be suprised. Lots of secrets…
Math doesn’t seem right on this. One exorcist for each archdiocese? Isn’t that a couple hundred exorcists for the US? Maybe a few thousand in the world? That seems like an awful lot of exorcists running around. If there were that many, they would have their own magazine by now.
Well, if he runs out of work in Chicago, they could send him to Homer’s place…
