Joe Lieberman Is Still A Dumb Fuck (today's WaPo Op-Ed)

Now that you mention it I do recall that departed poster december was open about supporting the war on a support-Israel basis.

I’m not seeing where you get ‘Jews’ from.

Leaving that aside. The core and backbone of war support is the desire to see dead Arabs.

It is what it is - the wish to become the terrorising power.

Although he wasn’t the only choice, I agree that he was a poor choice. Non-charismatic, too conservative, too milquetoast, and he looks like Kevin Spacey will at age 100. When his selection was announced, I remember turning to my spouse and saying “oh shit, there goes the fucking election”. With a stick like big Al putting people to sleep, all you need is Droopy Dog to spice things up.

I’m not even sure I bleieve Iran’s supporting the insurgency as much as the Bush administration says it is. Why should I believe them? They either lie or are clueless about everything else.

A few months back a local paper had an article written by a reporter embedded with a british unit that was patrolling the Iran-Iraq border. The commander’s comments were “there’s nothing crossing this border. None of the arms shipments they say there are. Sorry, it just isn’t happening.”

Not that that guy was necessarily right. But Bush and his minions have lied about everything else.

I have it on good authority that if we can just wait six months, things will be looking a whole lot better in Iraq. That’s been the strategy for years now.

If it is, so what?

And a happy new F.U.* to you, too!

  • For the uninitiated, F.U. = “Friedman Unit” named for NY Times columnist Thomas “The Next Six Months Will Be Critical” Friedman.

Standing in Iraq with a gun in my hand
Staring at the trees, staring at the sand
Staring down the barrel at the Arab on the street,
His muted mouth pleads but I hear no sound
I’m a senator, not the Veep.
I’m the DINO, killing an Arab.

Wow, that is an atrocious piece of writing. So many jumbled “facts” and misleading phrases. I’d maybe give him the benefit of the doubt on the first quote in the OP (he’s talking about the “Shiite Crescent” idea floated by King Abdullah in the last year or so, not the Iraq war itself), but I agree with the rest of the analysis-- JL is off his rocker on the subject of Iraq. I guess there’s one vote for the “surge” idea that Bush is surely going to put forward soon. Didn’t Harry Reid give conditional approval for that already, too?

I really would like to see Congress put an expiration date on the AUMF they passed in Oct 2002. And I’d really like a date with Halle Berry, too. I think my chances are better with Halle than with Congress.

Especially because Bush would have the right to veto any Congressional resolution modifying the AUMF - and he would of course do so. So you’d need a 2/3 majority of each House of Congress to do that. What sort of evening are you planning for Halle?

I hope that the next time a President asks Congress for an AUMF, they put a time limit on it, even if it seems to be a ‘joke’ time limit at the time - ‘how much time do you think you’ll need, Mr. President’ multiplied by 2 or 3. I mean, suppose, in October 2002, Congress had put a 5-year time limit on the Iraq AUMF. Nobody, but nobody, was suggesting back then that we’d still be in Iraq in 2007. But we’re just about there.
