Um you do know that taxes go up and down like the tide in the US, right? It’s not written on the fuckin rosetta stone that Americans have to pay xx% in taxes every year. So Plumber Joe has to pay $900 dollars more in taxes because he makes $280000 vs $250000…cry me a river. Tell that to the folks living on the $30,000 dif between the two.
I assume you’ll be voting Libertarian then, since the Republican platform currently includes a graduated income tax.
Why should anyone making under $250K give a shit about what happens to those making over? I’ve never seen evidence that any concern goes back in the other direction.
-Joe
Sharing the wealth so the people below get their share aint cool. Paying taxes to run the government is just fine.
It looks like You are correct sir
I withdraw my scurrilous attack upon Mr. Plumber.
I guess you shouldn’t just assume that everyone on this board is a fucking pauper slinging coffee at the local Starbucks huh? I own a business. I employ a few folks that make above six figures. My employee’s issues are one of my biggest concerns. Someone else’s employees? Not so much. If you haven’t experienced that, I can’t help you.
I guess I see it this way, if everyone had to pay quarterly taxes like I do, I honestly believe people would look at their taxes in a new light. After the comments from O’biden lately about passing around other people’s money who have done nothing to earn it, pandering for fucking votes, I guess I now look at taxes differently.
The ‘people below’, huh? Sorry, John, had to borrow your scare quotes for a worthier target.
Meanwhile, the government decides that citizens being more able to pay their mortgages and other debts is a Gee Golly Good Thing for the country at large. And so, in the course of running the government, they put forth a policy to make that a little bit more likely by raising taxes on citizens that can most easily adapt to the circumstances.
I don’t see the downside.
A vote for the republican candidate only encourages them for the next election. “Sure we lost the election, but look at how many people still support our positions. We’ll get 'em next time…”
Obama said it, not me.
How again is raising the taxes, on the people paying the majority of taxes anyway, going to help someone pay their mortgage?
If we don’t raise taxes how are you going to fund Cindy McCains’ son in Iraq?
Bring them home. Don’t presume that you have a grasp of my political leanings simply because I don’t want to pay more taxes.
Sorry, I just saw that he said “people behind you” not “below you”. If I could, I’d go back and change my post.
Money can be exchanged for goods and services. If you give money to people in debt, they are in a better position to satisfy those debts.
The people paying the majority of taxes… they don’t generally have mortgage problems. Well, now they do, but that voodoo economics’ll do that to ya…
So now I get the privilege to pay off other people’s debts besides my own? Isn’t that neat!
Yeah, once you gross that first penny after $250k, you are allowed to wipe your ass with $100 bills and throw rocks at poor people. All your financial problems disappear.
You know, I’ve been both well off in my past and at rock bottom, and I’m glad to say that I’m happy to share my wealth with those less fortunate than me. And the thing is, even when scraping the floor, there’s still folks who are worse off and deserve help. There for the grace of Og go I…
It’s a free country. You could become a tax protestor. Good luck, champ!
And I agree. What I object to, is being forced to pay even more, to spread it around. I spread it around to targeted charities and local causes at my own discretion to groups that I think can best use it.
I employ a few folks that make a good living. They pay a shit load of taxes too. Where does it end? Aw fuck, it’s only another 3% right?
Nope. Apparently, what also comes with that first penny is the inability to actually gripe about the taxes that you pay.
And I hear you, because I donate as well when I can (both time and money). But there are plenty of people who don’t want to have this option dictated to them and use this as the reason why. My family is one of them and yet, they really don’t do anything to help anyone else. Just use this as an excuse instead.
Ultimately, I’m okay with donating individually and because the government also believes it’s the right thing for all of us to help shoulder others’ burdens. Hell, they tell us to do so much, it’s nice that occasionally it’s at least for a good and right issue.
The first amendment is still intact, for now, so gripe all you like. And I’ll counter-gripe. Thus, the republic prospers.
(Though much better under liberal policies than under conservative. It’s true, it’s true.)
